GdS: How ‘Pu-Gi-Le’ and RLC have emulated Pato, Kaka, Pippo and Ronaldinho

By Oliver Fisher -

For years AC Milan fans have longed to see a balanced attack with more than just one or two leading men, and this season has provided exactly that.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud, Rafael Leao and Ruben Loftus-Cheek represent Milan’s most useful resources in the attacking department, and the players that Stefano Pioli can continuously rely on.

Pulisic is already having his best season from a scoring point of view with 13 goals in 41 appearances and Saturday’s gem against Lecce saw him hit double figures in the league, another personal best.

On the other hand, Leao is back to sprinting like in the Scudetto year: the Portuguese scored 12 goals in 38 games, distributed between the league (6), Champions League (1), Coppa Italia (1) and Europa League. Last year he got 16, a target he has in his sights for the next few weeks.

Giroud has also been doing his job very well. From the day of his arrival in Milan, the Frenchman placed himself at the centre of the attack and repaid the faith of the management with goals. He has so far reached 15 in 2023-24, at the end of last season he had 18. A gap that is not impossible to fill.

Finally, Loftus-Cheek has reached the same level as he did with Chelsea in the 2018-19 season, in which he scored 10 goals under Maurizio Sarri which is same as this year. He is not a natural forward, but with Pioli he learned the attacking midfielder role.

The result? The Rossoneri have the second-best attack in Serie A (60 goals, behind Inter’s 75), and no team have four players that are in double figures for goals. At Milan, it hasn’t happened since 2008-09 season when Pato (18), Kakà (16), Inzaghi (16) and Ronaldinho (10) did it.

Two of the ‘four musketeers’ are currently also top of the Serie A assist charts too: Giroud and Leao have eight each, matched only by Roma’s Paulo Dybala, who will be an opponent on Thursday night.

  1. I am afraid this comparison is disrespectful towards Kaka-Pato-Pippo trio.

They dominated world football in that time. Pu-Gi-Le could not survive in UCL group stage

    1. Pato never played in a Milan team that dominated world football. If you said Kaka Seedorf Inzaghi then maybe.

  2. Actually, Weston McKennie at Juventus has nine assists, and is top of the charts, but two (Giroud/Leao) with eight and another (Pulisic) with six is an excellent return.

What we really need is for one or two of our midfielders to start either scoring or creating more.

  3. You’re very stupid to compare mighty Kaka,Pato,Pippo and Ronaldinho with these worthless players that are after money.
