GdS: Ibrahimovic calls and Morata says yes to Milan – details of the transfer

Alvaro Morata is now the primary target to reinforce AC Milan’s attack ahead of the 2024-25 season. According to a report, the Spaniard has said yes to the move and will soon officially communicate his decision to Atletico Madrid.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), Zlatan Ibrahimovic managed to convince Morata to join the club over the phone. Along with his wife Alice, who is Italian, he’s now ready to make a return to the country.

The striker had toyed with the idea last summer, moving to Milano that is, as Inter expressed an interest in his services. Now, the move will materialise as the 31-year-old promised Ibrahimovic, ready to communicate his decision to Atletico Madrid.

Ibrahimovic shows his value

Of course, Ibrahimovic’s presence is important to get this transfer over the line, similar to when Paolo Maldini was negotiating with players. Giorgio Furlani may be important for keeping the finances in order and registering a second consecutive profit, but he’s nothing compared to the Swede in convincing players.

Morata, who will captain Spain in the Euros final, expressed his loyalty to Atletico Madrid just eight days ago and then, Ibrahimovic called and evidently did his job. Paulo Fonseca also spoke to the Spaniard to ensure that he will be the main man up front, which certainly helped.

Some details still need to be defined for the contract, with Milan putting a three-year deal worth €4m plus bonuses per year. Morata, meanwhile, wants it to be a four-year deal with figures of around €5m and a compromise is expected to be found.

Decisive days ahead

The aforementioned difference between the offer and demand will not be a problem, as both parties are set on making the move happen. Morata knows that Milan have set a cap of €6.5m per year and will respect that, knowing that a very good salary will still be offered by the club.

The striker wants to define his future before going on holiday and as such, his decision should arrive already on Monday. Then, Milan can initiate contracts with Atletico Madrid and trigger the €13m release clause, which is active the entire summer (and not just a short period).

By Monday, therefore, Morata could be the new No.9 of Milan and it will certainly be good for the Rossoneri to get the deal sorted. Then, they can focus on other positions such as defensive midfield, with Youssouf Fofana the main target for that role.

  1. We had many young strikers in past 7 years, and all of them gone.
Just remember when Ibra come back to Milan to play Milan started to grow again. Giroud later took his spot and now I hope Morata will continue.

  2. Zlatan is an added value because he can convince cheap players that nobody else is trying to recruit? Impressive and so different from last summer…

    1. Over 100 goals in top3 leagues: LaLiga, Serie A and Premier League

Experience in Real Madrid, Atletico, Juventus and Chelsea

Captain of team that just plays in Euro final

Top4 Spain National all time scorer (with still few years to play to easily reach top3)

Still be called “cheap and wanted by no one” by someone 😭

      1. So what you’re going to give me his stats when he was 15 years old? Right now he’s on the decline already and it’s a fact that no other club wants him. This Milan likes cheap “opportunities”.

The player he is right now: 1 goal and 1 assist in 6 games at the Euro as the striker for a Spain team that scored 13 goals. Invisible yesterday.

Truth is that management recruits to beat Fiorentina or Genoa.

        1. “Right now he’s on the decline already and it’s a fact that no other club wants him.”
He is just coming from scoring 15 goals in la Liga (0 penalties), an all-time from him and 21 goals in a team that is known for being very defensive. So I’m not so sure how much he is on the decline right now.

          1. ^ Exactly, he had pretty much two best seasons in his life, but „he is on a decline 😭”. Some bots just don’t have enough.

Mbappe scored only 1 goal that Euro and from a penalty, based on your line of argumentation he is trash, right?

          2. Griezmann who is not a striker scored more than Morata. He’s at an advanced stage of his career so we have enough background to understand what we can expect here. And it’s not the chosen one that we’re expecting at striker for years. Anyway in my case the optimist is long gone for Milan.

          3. @Bartholomeo: Griezmann scored 16 goals including 4 penalties, Morata scored 15 goals with no penalties. Overall Morata had 21 goals this season and Griezmann 23 including the 4 penalties, not much of a difference.
I’m not a big fan of Morata but I don’t understand how he is “worse” than Zirkzee, Jonathan David or even Lukaku. To me the only perhaps better propositions that Morata are high prolific strikers like Guirassy (who just had one good season), Dovbyk (same with only one season in high level) and Gyokeres (too expensive and never played in high level).
Also since the departure of Giroud, Kjaer,… I’m not against an older, more experienced player who happens to be a captain.

          4. Bart just likes to hate. He is going to hate on anyone this management brings in. And when Morata has a good season for us he will pretend he didn’t say all this, or he’ll just come up with some other reason to hate. He just hates the owners because they are American. I’m sure he was the same one screaming how the cheap owners were going to sell Leao and Theo, which they are not. Now it loks like they are about to sign Fofana as well. Will he ever say that he was wrong? Nope.

  3. Well i didn’t know Pulisic will hit top form last season. Milan love cheap players. yes we have always been a buyer of Aged, experienced and almost declining players but one beautiful story about milan is. we have a way to turn this products back to stars/assets.

it’s like Milan has the cure for football cancer in players.

i won’t be surprised if morata fails to hit 2 goals in Euro then get to seria A and challenge for Top player stats. we will see

  4. If milan signs Morata it is clear that the managamemt and the Owners are not going to build milqn win
They took milan step back from the winning ways and evem cost reduction and sales future
    Sorry

  5. Morata offers more guarantees in Serie A than Zirkzee, so I don’t understand why people are so bent out of shape. Haters are more focused on the price tag, expensive always equals good in their eyes. We got Giroud for a song and a dance and then he was our 9 during the Scudetto run. Everyone needs to calm TF down.

    1. Exactly my sentiment.
A classic no 9 is very rare in today’s market.
Morata isn’t Inzaghi or Giroud but he can pull a similar gameplay which suit our current team.
And we still have Okafor who can play as a mobile striker

  6. I don’t believe a single thing gds writes up. If they wrote an article saying the sea is blue I wouldn’t believe it

  7. I for once really like this move.
    Prefer Morata over zirkee.
If in some games Fonseca wants a striker that can play with mobility we already have Okafor.
Our wingers are really good, we just need a striker that can pull the defenders away from them.

    1. Yes I agree . I don’t like Morata too, but the truth is that he is good experienced striker, motivated to win. And like you said, after depature of experienced Kjaer and Giroud we need players like him. BTW now when France are out, they could try to sign also Rabiot. Both will be good added value to this squad.

  8. I have said it over n over again This management won’t drop their penny to buit Milan. What they want to do is to use Milan money to fix Milan. That’s why they are only focused on 4th place for the time being, sale a player to buy players and buy cheaply. Time will tell whether this strategy will work. The issue is that the gap between us and Real Madrid has widened largely and if we don’t act fast , we never be able to bridge the gap again. I am really sad with our situation. Milan that was once addressed as ” The most successful club in the history of football ” is now behind Real Madrid and Bacelona in order of ranking.

    1. If you repeat a lie one thousand times, it’s still a lie. €100 million was spent last season. Over €60 million was set aside for Zirkzee and Fofana. They also dropped €20 million just for the land and clean up for the new stadium and invested another €20 million or so on Milan Futuro so you are, in fact, full of shit.

    3. This is the dumbest comment yet. You are blaming this management for Milan being behind Real Madrid and Barcelona??? Hah. What time warp did you just come out of? They’ve been behind them for decades now. Milan has been moving up the rankings in the a last 5 years. I love all these haters who just skip over the ten years before Milan as taken over by American owners where they won nothing. No Scudetto, not even qualifying for Champions League. It’s as if they just woke up from a 12 year sleep. Ok Rip Van Winkle.

      1. “What have you done for me lately?”

…uhm… lifted you from the last 10 years of the pile of sh|t that you’ve been lost in?

“This management is run by clowns who don’t know sh|t”… LOL… Okay then.

  9. The people complaining are the same supporters who were excited when the club signed kalinic, piątek and higuain.

      1. I like the fact that Fonseca didn’t try to force his move to Milan like a lot of coaches do, like what Conte is trying to do with Lukaku.
