GdS: Key Milan duo closing in on return from injury plus the latest on Gabbia

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is closing in on being able to welcome back two key members of his regular starting XI, a report claims.

If tonight against Torino in the Coppa Italia we will see Zlatan Ibrahimovic get more minutes under his belt, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) reports that the two players next closest to returning are Alexis Saelemaekers and Ismael Bennacer.

Ante Rebic and Rade Krunic are out due to Covid-19 so the coaching staff have to wait, while for Matteo Gabbia it is anticipated that we should see him on the pitch again in mid-February.

The paper explains that both Saelemaekers and Bennacer are working to be called up for the game in Cagliari next Monday. They have overcome the muscle injury that stopped them for a few weeks, but they are not yet 100% in condition and the staff do not want to take any risks.

The one who seems closest to returning is the Belgian, while the Algerian will be evaluated in the coming days and may be preserved for the Atalanta game.
