GdS: Leao and Giroud back together in Serie A – they are the match-winning duo

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan take on Monza at San Siro today and they will have Olivier Giroud back alongside Rafael Leao, with the duo looking to combine and be decisive again.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the goalscoring duo of Leao and Giroud who are back together in Serie A. The last time they played here together in the league was 43 days ago. For Rafa the last winning goal was against Verona, for Giroud it was back on August 26th.

The responses from Leao were positive: out of the starting attack in Newcastle he was the last to come off and the first to start the comeback with an action from the left then finished by Pulisic. Jovic was the surprise, Giroud remains the guarantee: of the Rossoneri’s 41 goals, 25 were celebrated at San Siro.

With Olivier on the pitch Milan have amassed 22 home wins in 38 games. If you look at the numbers, to Giroud’s 41 Rossoneri goals you can add Leao’s 47 goals, a total of 88: the top scorers for Milan in the last 10 years.

The Frenchman will negotiate with the club for a one-year renewal: next year he could lend a hand to his team-mates and a new striker, in a passing of the baton type role.

The alternatives for Milan could be decisive too with Chukwueze, Jovic and Okafor having shown positive signs in Newcastle. Leao and Giroud together again at San Siro and Pulisic with them though should be enough.
