GdS: Leao snubbed by Santos again as Portugal prepare for Morocco clash

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao has done quite well at the World Cup thus far, despite not starting a single game for Portugal. He got on the scoresheet last time out, but will not get the chance from start later today.

The Milan winger has been in the spotlight recently as several top clubs are interested in signing him. But in spite of his great form, Portugal’s manager Fernando Santos has only used him off the bench, which isn’t shocking given the competition.

Leao came off the bench against Switzerland last time out and scored a wonderful curling effort, taking his tally up to two goals. Joao Felix will be the starting left-winger against Morocco tonight, though, as reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan).

It remains to be seen if Leao will come off the bench, as he did in the other four games. In any case, he has shown what he’s capable of in spite of the limited playing time and that in itself is a sign of great strength.

  1. I think it’s best to bring him on when the Moroccan defence is tired. Because he’s a star for us, We tolerate him when he sashays on the pitch due to tiredness but I don’t think the Portuguese fans will tolerate that so bringing him on second half is probably the best way to use him in this tournament.
