GdS: Milan show impressive desire in tainted comeback win against Udinese

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan clinched their fourth consecutive win in the league thanks to the impressive 3-2 comeback against Udinese on Saturday. Unfortunately, the result was overshadowed by the racial abuse towards Mike Maignan, but the Rossoneri showed great strength.

It was indeed a strange evening in Udinese, with the home side slowing down the tempo and causing as many breaks as possible. The game was then suspended due to the racial abuse towards Maignan, with Italy and Serie A yet again facing a disgraceful situation.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) broke down the game, from Milan’s impressive desire to the disgraceful incidents in the stands.

Milan show great desire

The Rossoneri are now on four consecutive wins in the league, which is a sign that something has changed. When they find themselves in difficult situations, they no longer give up but rather focus on their own reaction instead.

Third place has been cemented in the standings, but as pointed out by the newspaper, this Milan squad probably does not feel completely excluded from the Scudetto race. All that is needed is for the top two teams to slip up…

The 3-2 comeback against Udinese was indeed impressive, with Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor scoring the ‘turnaround goals’ off the bench. We should also remember that Alessandro Florenzi took the corner for the third goal, so Stefano Pioli’s substitutions were certainly successful.

Above all, even more so than the result, the newspaper praised the character of Milan. They chose to stay in the game, even after all that had happened, against a very physical side like Udinese. And now with four concussive wins, perhaps the Champions League isn’t the only target…

Racial abuse towards Maignan

As the newspaper continues, the match was tainted by the five-minute interruption which was caused by racial abuse towards Maignan. It happened shortly after Ruben Loftus Cheek’s 1-0 goal for Milan, around the half-hour mark.

Maignan had already alerted the referee Fabio Maresca on a previous occasion and when it happened for the second time, he decided to leave the pitch. His teammates supported his decision and the game was halted for five minutes before it was resumed.

The problem in Italy and Serie A remains, now a strong signal is needed to punish the ignorant ones.
