GdS: Milan’s Tonali-esque strategy to secure Botman as Lille set hefty price tag

By Isak Möller -

It’s not exactly a secret that AC Milan are looking for a centre-back on the market to cover for the absence of Simon Kjaer. Sven Botman appears to be the priority and the Rossoneri have a strategy to secure him.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Botman is indeed the first choice of Milan, but he’s also expensive. It should also be added that other teams are keeping tabs on him as a result of the positive performance.

Milan have great relations with Lille, having signed Mike Maignan and Rafael Leao from them, but this doesn’t mean they will give Botman away. In fact, they have slapped a €25-30m price tag on the Dutch youngster.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara feel that a paid loan with an option to buy would be the ideal solution. Perhaps it will be similar to the Tonali operation, for which the fixed part of the loan fee was very high and thus made the redemption the only sensible choice in the end.
