GdS: Milan’s probable XIs for Fiorentina and Dortmund – three differences

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund after the international break. Two crucial games for the Rossoneri, and Stefano Pioli already has two different starting XIs in mind.

Milan have collected just two points from their last four league games and will have to bounce back against Fiorentina next Saturday. Due to the injury of Rafael Leao and the suspension of Olivier Giroud, some changes are expected to the XI.

As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Pioli already has two starting XIs in mind. He plans to field different ones in these two games, in other words, relying more on experience against Dortmund.

Probable Milan XI vs. Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Musah, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic; Okafor.

Probable Milan XI vs. Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Okafor (Leao); Giroud.

Against La Viola, the manager wants to surprise the opponents with speed and creativity, fielding Nooh Okafor as the striker. The Swiss international will be supported by Samuel Chukwueze and Christian Pulisic on the flanks.

In the Champions League encounter, however, Giroud will be available and this means Okafor should start on the left. Christian Pulisic will be on the right flank, while the likes of Davide Calabria and Rade Krunic will get their starting spots back.

  1. No is not done I presume Acmilan should start Romero as the attacking midfield then Loftus cheek Will enter second half in the match against Fiorentina then use then second half will sub pulisic for Chaka troare against Dortmund Loftus cheek should start second half Romero should enter

  2. If we plan on having RLC in top shape v Dortmund, he should not play v Fiorentina. I hope the coaches are considering things more carefully than the week of fire.
We can’t just play from game to game, we need to plan and save our best players

  3. If Puslic does not play as No10,Pkus Chekueza and Okafur up Front with Camarda or Jovotic
And Krunic never be included into the line upps

  4. I think it was proven time and time again that Krunic shouldn’t be a starter in any game, especially in a must win game where building play is very important.
Krunic can come in later when/if the score is in our favor and we just need to manage, and should be late in the game.
But he shouldn’t be in the starting eleven in big games.

  5. Don’t understand why he would revert to Pulisic on the right against Dortmund. He’s a natural LW, he’s playing there against Fio. Why not give him two games at LW and Chukwueze two games at RW and instead send Okafor to the bench, with Giroud coming back in at striker? That way both Pulisic and Chukwueze get some consistency in their natural positions for at least two games instead of being moved around and in and out. Plus, Giroud is suspended for the next Serie A game too, so technically three straight games for Puli on the left and Chuk on the right, plus two for Okafor at striker. Consistency! Practice makes perfect! The genius of Pioli.

  6. @Vero Rossonero: I believe Pulisic will start on the right against Dortmund because there is hope that Leao will be ready for that game. If Leao is fit (let’s hope so), no reason to not have him start as a LW.
Also if Chukwueze is still terrible against la viola, perhaps starting him against Dortmund is not a bad idea, especially that we will get Giroud back.
