GdS: Milan’s probable XI for derby clash – Pioli gambles with new formation

By Isak Möller -

Today is the day: the long-awaited derby between AC Milan and Inter will take place at San Siro this evening. For both sides, it will be a very important game, not just for the prestige, but also with regards to the standings.

For this game, Stefano Pioli has decided to do something different with the starting eleven. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan.com), backing up what was reported yesterday, he will scrap the 4-4-2 in favour of a 4-4-1-1.

With this formation, the midfield will get better stability, avoiding getting overrun by the Nerazzurri. Hakan Calhanoglu will start in the role behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has recovered from his muscle injury after carrying out a personalized program.

Meanwhile, Ante Rebic will get the chance to the left, rather than Jack Bonaventura. As the newspaper points out, it should become a 4-2-3-1 when the Rossoneri are in possession. Take a look at both line-ups in the pic below.
