GdS: Milan’s remaining league games this season and the direct clashes

Following the defeat against Torino on Saturday evening, just 13 league games remain for AC Milan this season. There will be quite a few direct clashes in the top-four race as well, with everything on the line for the Rossoneri.

Milan are currently six points behind top four and it could become eight points today, as Juventus will face Cagliari. In short, the situation is far from ideal and as things stand, the Rossoneri making the top four is not super likely.

The upcoming week will be decisive, though, with two ‘direct clashes’ in the race as highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below). Bologna are up first on Thursday for the rescheduled clash, then Lazio will come to San Siro on Sunday.

Napoli (not a direct clash), Fiorentina, Atalanta and Bologna (again) also remain but at least Milan have the likes of Inter and Juventus out of the way. Next week, as said, will be the decisive one because without six points or at the very least four points in those games, it won’t be possible anyway.

Sergio Conceicao made it clear last night that he still believes in top four and from March, he will also have more time with the team given the lack of mid-week clashes.

  1. It is obvious and to the blind people that they can forget about top 4.
The maximum of this tem can be 5th position. Even that Lazio play much more so there is possibility that Milan next season will be without Europe.

That will crash again uefa club coefficient…

    1. It might be unlikely if we keep playing inconsistently but 4rth place isn’t really far away if we can win the match at hand against Bologna on Thursday. If we cant win it though it might become an insurmountable task but with a win we will be 5 points behind Juventus if they actually wins tonight. Hardly an impossible task to overcome.

      1. Dude, those guys lost against Feyenoord and Zagreb.

They lost against Torino and that is how continuation of stronger games in Serie A is going to happen.

Juventus is much stronger than this.

        1. So ? we also beat Inter. I’ve followed football for so long that I know things easily can change and 5 points in a 3 point league really isn’t much. If we start to win a few games in a row then the confidence will grow and as we have seen the rest of the top 4-6 really isn’t playing too strong either so while we have a mathematical chance of qualifying we should obviously try to get there.
Will it be enough ?`maybe, maybe not. Time will tell but we are at least not out yet.
Juventus also got thrown out of cl by PSV by the way.

          1. So ?

Maximum this team won in a row is 2 games. They need to win next 10 games to overturn Juventus.

Chances for that is 0,01 %.

          2. No they don’t. Its simple math because if as I already said if we can win the match on Thursday and Juventus wins tonight then we are 5 points behind them and then one bad game for them and one good for us then we are two points behind them.
I will give you this though that the prospects doesnt look great but you are clearly over exaggerating in regard of wininng 10 matches in a row.

          3. Please elaborate why you come up with those 0.0 something % because either you accept math and how it works or you are just pulling out numbers out of your sleeve. I don’t wanna offend you here but clearly our chances are way better than what you are suggesting and if you cant come up with some great explanation then I will suggest you to head back to school.

          4. Dude math is very easy.

Milan won 11 games in serie a.

From those 11 games, I remember very well and deserved play against Inter, Venezia, Lecce and latest Empoli.

All other wins was hugely disappointing and suffering plays that by chances and luck they managed to win.

When you compare previous seasons number 4th spots, teams that reach that position had usually more than 70 points.

Looking this Ac Milan season and comparing competitors and other teams, looking Ac Milan schedule and current atmosphere in team that changed coach 3 times in less than a year, math is obvious. It’s not for blind people maybe but still even 0,05% is huge chances for this Milan.

          5. By the way, in my opinion winter mercato can show that employers in Ac Milan figure this out in front of time.
That’s why they bring youngster Gimenez and other way Morata. They removed Calabria, Ballo Toure and Bennacer.
They are preparing in a time for much busiest summer mercato where they need to sell a lot of players to cut the losses.
Juventus invested also huge money in winter just to won that 4th position and that in summer they can have bigger spending mercato.
Unfortunately so many mistakes by Red Bird now is coming to be paid by Milan.

          6. Well I think the only thing we will agree upon here is that we have had a sh!tty season and I didnt really compare us with any other seasons but still if we can win on Thursday then the season really isn’t over as such and can to some extent be salvaged at least with a cl qualification and maybe a coppa win. Far from perfect and not what we should be striving for and this season will to some extent also stand in infamy in my view but cl qualification isnt impossible.

          7. So you figured it out.

That is betting logic: when you place a bet which team is going to win, you are also looking how both team play this season and how they play last 5 games.

Milan is in a such a bad shape. And this started after first lost game against Roma last year in Europa Lague.

In last 20 games Milan is in much better shape, than 20 games after that Roma game.

Milan now have much more wins comparing that period. But, by statistic, Juventus have much bigger chances than Milan. Specially after all these mistakes by players. Coach and all players are now under so big pressure that the most experienced ones couldn’t handle it.
It would be more easier for team that they tell them: ok season is lost, we will sell some of you in summer unfortunately due to financial reasons. Now have fun and go to play. But management still pressure Conceicao, which is not good.
Almost 60% Milan players are still youngsters … They can’t handle this situation.

          8. No Im talking about the possibility of reaching the goal of cl qualification not our past merits and mathematically we still are far from out of it. Pretty simple here if anything compared to you low % we are probably still within 20-25 & chance of qualifying and if we win on Thursday 30-35% chance.
At the end of the season we will see who ius right not whether Milan qualifies but how close we might be , We are by NO means out YET at least.

  2. Anything is possible, personally I think we just need to find some balance, go away from the 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 make the AM a DM and stick to it for more than one game we might find consistancy before the season is over. I think its a bit late to make drastic changes like a 3 man defense

  3. Martin please just stop. You lost the argument. I saw logic from the Croatian and only frustration from you. Just stop (a two-word sentence).

    1. we was talking about mathemathical chance of qualifying and if you actually buys into those numbers Croatian-Fan puts forward then I gotta say mathematics isnt your strong side either Moshi. Nothing lost here in fact he hasnt proven any point except that we are in a dire place and has been playing badly which we all knew from the start of the argument.
