GdS: Pioli will rely on his protagonists in deciding Sassuolo-Milan clash

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are just one point from clinching the sought-after Scudetto and it will all be decided in their game against Sassuolo tomorrow. And as you would expect, Stefano Pioli will rely on his protagonists to succeed.

The Rossoneri are unbeaten in 15 consecutive league games as the last loss dates back to January. They will be looking to extend that run tomorrow and thus clinch the Scudetto in the process. And Pioli, of course, will rely on his key men.

Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, decided to take a look at the players that have meant a little more for the manager this season. First off, however, it’s necessary to establish that the Rossoneri are a great collective.

There are a few protagonists, though, and many of them are defenders. In the last few months, the defence has indeed been the best attack for Milan. Mike Maignan, Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori have been absolutely crucial and it wouldn’t have been possible without them.

It’s one of the best defences in Europe since the start of the year, which says a lot about the quality. The men on the flanks shouldn’t be forgotten either, namely Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez, the captain respectively the best left-back in the league.

While the attack has struggled this year, the midfield has been of great importance for Pioli’s style of playing. Sandro Tonali is the heart of the department, always giving his best with quality, and Franck Kessie has helped with his professionalism. Ismael Bennacer, although he’s not a certain starter, has also improved massively since arriving.

Finally, up front, Olivier Giroud has found the back of the net when most needed, including the brace against Inter. Rafael Leao has been even more important and consistent, leading the attack for Milan in this season finale.
