GdS: Pioli’s doubts and certainties ahead of Juve-Milan revealed

By Nikita Fesyukov -

There are six days to go until the return leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final between Juventus and AC Milan, a game that will officially kick off the resumption of the 2019/20 football season.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via milanlive.it), Stefano Pioli still has several doubts about the formation to be presented at the Allianz Stadium next Friday as well as some player choices.

Three players are unavailable due to suspension: Theo Hernandez, Castillejo and Ibrahimovic and the main doubts concern the attack. Pioli must decide whether to challenge the Bianconeri with a sole attacker (Ante Rebic) or with a tandem consisting of the Croatian and Rafael Leao.

In the first case, Milan would present itself with the famous Christmas tree formation. Rebic would act as the striker with two playmakers behind him (Calhanoglu and Paqueta) to act freely.

The second hypothesis instead foresees a dynamic 4-4-2: Rebic and Leao in the attack and two wider offensive midfielders on the wings.

The rest is somewhat more clear for Pioli: Calabria will replace Hernandez on the left side of the defence, Kjaer will play alongside Romagnoli and the duo Kessie-Bennacer will start in the middle of the field
