GdS: Saelemaekers poised to replace Leao against Inter – the situation

By Isak Möller -

As Rafael Leao could miss out on the first leg between AC Milan and Inter, Stefano Pioli has been forced to evaluate the options. However, it’s possible that he already solved the matter against Lazio.

Leao suffered a slight muscle strain in the game against Lazio and was forced to leave the pitch after just 11 minutes. Even though the injury isn’t serious, there might not be enough time to make him available for Wednesday’s encounter.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Pioli is expected to field Alexis Saelemaekers in the left-wing position. The Belgian came off the bench against Lazio and actually did very well, allowing Theo Hernandez to burst forward more.

In addition to that, Saelemaekers has been in good form overall lately as opposed to the other alternatives Pioli has, i.e. Divock Origi and Ante Rebic. Brahim Diaz or Junior Messias will play on the opposite side, most likely the Spaniard.

  1. Salad is good when he doesn’t show frustration (by throwing his hands in the air constantly). He should be more patient and calm

  2. If we get through this leg it will put them on the back foot with fear for leao in the 2nd leg. It’s no bad thing to lose your star player sometimes it galvanises the team even more.
