GdS: What Gazidis told the Milan squad about Rangnick rumours; why Maldini was absent

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis addressed the squad regarding the rumours surrounding Ralf Rangnick’s possible arrival, it is claimed.

We reported on Wednesday night that there was a heated confrontation between Ibrahimovic and Gazidis at Milanello, with the latter having stepped foot onto the training ground for the first time in three months.

His meeting did not go entirely as planned though as the former Arsenal chief ended up clashing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the 38-year-old criticising Gazidis for being too distant.

According to the latest from La Gazzetta dello Sport (as cited by MilanNews), Gazidis the players pointed out how destabilising the rumours are regarding the future of Stefano Pioli and the possible arrival of Ralf Rangnick.

The CEO’s response was to ask the players to ignore them and he told them that before the end of the season the club will not make decisions on the matter.

The paper adds (via MilanLive) that Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini was absent due to commitments previously made. This is the official version at least, but it cannot be excluded that the reasons are different, especially given all the rumours regarding tension with Gazidis and that he could leave at the end of the season.
