Gimenez admits Milan are ‘very disappointed’ but supports Theo: “It can happen to anyone”

Santiago Gimenez believes that AC Milan were playing well in the second leg against Feyenoord, but everything changed after one incident.

Milan went into the game knowing that they had to win on the night in order to have a chance of going through, after having lost the first leg 1-0 at De Kuip.

Things certainly started in the ideal way as the Rossoneri took the lead inside 60 seconds with Gimenez returning to haunt his former club, heading in from close range after a short corner.

However, the game completely changed when Theo Hernandez was shown a second yellow card for a dive, meaning Milan were down to 10 men.  Julian Carranza then came off the bench to equalise on the night and send the Dutch side through.

Gimenez spoke to Sky and Milan TV after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on what was a difficult night for the team despite the positive personal note of scoring, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Is this a big disappointment?

“We are very disappointed, we started very well and we were controlling well and we didn’t see how Feyenoord could hurt us.”

What did you do wrong in the two games? Did Theo’s red card change everything?

“Today it was Theo’s turn but it can happen to anyone, this is football. We have the utmost respect for Theo, he has our full support: he always gives everything for Milan and is one of the best full-backs in the world.”

What now?

“Now we must not look back and we must look forward: we must work silently to achieve our goals.”

How do you react after that?

“We were playing well, we almost scored. But that’s football, everything can change in a second. We weren’t able to find the solution to the problem we had. There’s a lot of disappointment, but we have to keep working because the season is long.”

How do you react?

“Work from tomorrow, nothing else.”

  1. No, it can’t happen to everyone. If you asked before the match who would be stupid enough to earn himself a second yellow for simulation, probably 90% would have voted for Theo and 10% for Felix. This guy always had the maturity of a primavera player. But that simulation will remain in the archives of world football.

    1. I do not agree. I would say Mush 60% and then Theo 40%

Conceicao is to blame here because a hothead like Theo is a liability with a yellow card. Better get him off and continue with 11 players

      1. Theo is a hot head but his sending off was not a hot head incident it was a dive which is even worse than that. You can’t blame Conceicao or anyone but Theo, how many times did Conceicao dive?

        1. Many times, there was no VAR. And it wasn’t a second yellow or red card. Nobody was even asking for a penalty. So now the player can’t even try to jump or avoid a tackle if they think it is coming because the referee might give him a card? You people are re****ed. I have never seen a worse group of “fans” than this. Cowards.

  2. No, it doesn’t happen to everyone to have such stupid yellow cards in the space of 5 minutes at that moment in that game. Stop defending that imbecile, he is the main reason why we are out. Maignan and his error are the second reason, and the inability to shoot in the corners of the net instead of straight at the keeper are third reason.

But if it wasn’t for this stupid piece of … we would have gone through.

    Basta!

  3. After the red card, milan should have continued in a 4-3-2 shape with Tijj- Fofana- musah in midfield & Abraham /Pulisic upfront.
●Leao was just dribbling to nowhere
●Jao Felix only exists as an idea/mirage of a player who could change games, in reality, the matching output is always missing.
●Barts should be involved a little more, Theo could be sold for 60m minimum.
