Giornale: Cardinale believes Pioli’s call for reinforcements showed ‘intelligence and fairness’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale agreed with Stefano Pioli’s call to reinforce the squad in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

After the win away against Juventus and subsequently securing qualification for the next Champions League, Stefano Pioli asked the club for reinforcements to allow Milan to compete on both fronts.

It is something that the Rossoneri were unable to do this season. A run to the semi-finals of the Champions League saw them beaten by Inter who have a deeper squad at present, while in the league the Scudetto defence fell apart in January, with defeats in the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa eliminating any chance of a trophy.

According to reports from Il Giornale (via MilanNews), Pioli’s words could have been taken badly by Cardinale given that it is implied as pressure to spend.

However, instead the RedBird Capital founder and number one believes that the Milan boss showed ‘intelligence and fairness’ in his comments.

Meanwhile, Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) are reporting this morning that Cardinale could also be present in the San Siro stands for the final game of the season against Verona on Sunday.
