Giroud laughs at ‘youthful’ mistake and says he has no intention to retire – watch

By Isak Möller -

In spite of scoring the winner against Sapzei with a great goal, Olivier Giroud wasn’t that happy with himself as he was sent off for taking off his shirt during the celebration. A red card that could have been avoided.

The Frenchman came off the bench and ended up scoring the winner in the 809th minute with an acrobatic finish. He took off his shirt in the celebration but the only problem was that he was already on a yellow card, thus getting sent off.

Speaking to MilanTV (see full video with subtitles below), Giroud shared his thoughts on the game and his performance.

On the goal…

“These sort of goals, acrobatic ones, I really enjoy scoring. I received a great ball from Tonali and I tried to do what I know in front of goal. I’m delighted for the team.

On the red card…

“That’s just football, even at 36 you can make a mistake of youthful exuberance. What really matters is that we got three points tonight, not like last season. I’ll have to wait for Fiorentina now and hope the team gets a win against Cremonese as well.”

On playing at his age…

“As I said before, I want to play and I have the determination as well as motivation to continue. I’ve spoken a lot with Ibrahimovic on this matter and he shares my mindset. We are blessed with bodies that want to do even more. I’ll keep going.”
