CM: Giroud the only Milan forward guaranteed to stay – surprise exits not excluded

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s attack is expected to undergo quite a sizeable overhaul in the summer as it has exposed itself as the team’s Achilles heel in the last few weeks.

Calciomercato.com are reporting that the only player from the entire forward group who is certain of staying is Olivier Giroud, which means there are plenty of players who go into the summer with their future uncertain.

Olivier Giroud: The Frenchman is certain to stay as he signed for Milan last summer after a long time in England with Arsenal and Chelsea. He has scored 11 goals in 31 games and has a contract until 2023.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: The Swede wants to continue, but the signs from his body are not good and that means a renewal is far from obvious. Milan need players who can contribute consistently with appearances and goals, not players who give doubts.

Rafael Leao: Negotiations are underway to extend his contract expiring in 2024 until 2026, but the case with Sporting CP looms. Leao is happy at Milan but his agent Jorge Mendes is flirting with the big names in Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain, but an offer of €70m would be needed.

Junior Messias: The Brazilian arrived from Crotone on loan with an option to buy. He has five goals this season so far but has struggled for the last couple of months, meaning the €5.4m option to make it permanent (plus €1m bonuses) is far from obvious.

Ante Rebic: The Croatian has not been anywhere near as decisive so far this season with 3 goals in 24 games and only 957 minutes played due to injuries. At the end of the season a meeting is expected between his agent Fali Ramadani and Paolo Maldini to understand what the plans are.

Marko Lazetic: The young striker only arrived in January, but he has not yet made his Serie A debut. His future will be a loan spell, so he can get playing time to develop and improve.

Samu Castillejo: The Spaniard will finally leave this summer, one year before his contract expires. He is expected to return to Spain but Sampdoria are interested in landing him too.

  1. I feel Ibra Will retire if AC Milan can get Scudetto this season.Leao ,Rebic,Junior are still on doubt Will stay next season

  2. Did u forget that we cant sell any player? Yes,free agents can go but when we speak about selling plyers for big money we are amateurs on that field

  3. When are they going to loan out Maldini ? Or does it not occur to management that the young lad needs regular minutes? If he can’t bench Briam then he is awful and needs those minutes, a loan is the best bet for him.
