GdS: Giroud vs. Rebic for the centre-forward role vs. Udinese with Origi poised

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has some selection dilemmas to resolve ahead of Saturday’s Serie A opener against Udinese, a report claims.

According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), a decision will be taken between today and especially tomorrow – the day before the match – on whether or not to field Olivier Giroud from the first minute against Udinese.

This morning Milan will carry out a training session at San Siro and it cannot be excluded that the Frenchman could do another individual training session, as he has done in the last few days due to suffering with muscle fatigue.

However, the feeling is that Giroud should rejoin the rest of the squad tomorrow for the final training session then he will be called up by Pioli for Udinese.

If Pioli decides not to risk him, then it would be up to Ante Rebic to lead the line, with the Croatian having appeared in excellent condition in the summer friendlies.

Divock Origi – who has been training in a group for two days – will also be called up and will start on the bench, ready to come on and play a segment of the game.

  1. Giroud is a top man ,I said this last season and I will say it again ,this man’s technical ability is second to none ,it’s not all about pace ,but being able to hold the ball up ,and allow others to be able to get on the ball .
It the 18 yard area he is best ( no doubt about that )
I believe 20 goals are possible from Olivier this season of course that is if he stays fit ( Rebec) is a good option in that he can play on the flank of or indeed as a CF .hIs workrate is very good..Olivier to me is still the top man in that position…I said that when Olivier Giroud was signed that we would win the scuddeto ( which we did ) never write oliver Giroud off ,he has utter determination, and belief to win .

  2. It’s better we start Rebic so Giroud rest a bit and he can maybe play the last 20minutes of the game.. and I hope in most games we should use rebic on the winger while giroud rotate with origi,

  3. going to be a long season and have depth, Rebic and Giroud two different players, “in Pioli I trust” Rebic has good vision and works outside with his feet, Olivier is more in close and a lot of headers, last year there was a dry spell for us toward the end of the season scoring, the defenses had shut down our service into the box for headers with Giroud being marked with two players, Pioli adjusted to us scoring more with our feet (Leao), Rebic I also feel is better when the opposition starts their counter attack often stealing the ball back or disrupting it.
