After Milan’s draw against Feyenoord, which knocked them out of the Champions League, Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke to the media. He stated that the Rossoneri killed themselves, making too many mistakes over 180 minutes.
Milan more or less dominated the game up until Theo Hernandez’s red card, which completely changed the situation. Conceicao’s subs in the second half also didn’t help, as Feyenoord were suddenly allowed to push forward given the lack of proper pressing from the Rossoneri.
Speaking to Sky after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Ibrahimovic that Milan killed themselves rather than Feyenoord playing good football. However, he also defended Theo Hernandez by saying that he is ‘not an actor’.
What are your feelings after the match?
“We are disappointed and angry. I think that maturity was lacking. As for Theo’s second yellow card, the referee was harsh. For a dive in a game like this, at least give a verbal warning before picking up the card. The match changed.
“Now the important thing is to stay as a group and think about the league. We will suffer tonight, and from tomorrow we will prepare for the next objective”
What more could have been done in the 180 minutes?
“We could have done much more. After the games, you can say many things. Today with a bit of luck we could have made it 2-0 in the first and we started the second half well. Then the game changed.”
Theo always dives…
“When these situations happen, you can’t say if it’s right or wrong. I don’t think Theo is an actor, he plays his game and tries to do the best he can. These things happen on the pitch, he doesn’t look for it.”
Are you angry with the referee or Theo?
“We are angry with ourselves. We killed ourselves. We are not angry with the referee. It’s our fault, there are no excuses or complaints. We have to look in the mirror and see what we did wrong.”
So many red cards: how is it possible?
“These are situations that happen on the pitch. In Empoli, we had a red card against us that wasn’t fair, and there was also one for them… These situations happen, we can’t control them beforehand. We have to be calm, collected and focused on the pitch.”
You have missed many season targets. What can satisfy you and where could you have done better?
“Today is a disappointment, the Champions League was a goal. Before the start of the season, we wanted to win the league. We won the Supercoppa Italiana, the Coppa Italia is missing: the history of the club is to aim for these trophies. Then during the season, things don’t always go as you thought.
“We weren’t happy and in January we made these moves to improve: but there’s no guarantee. I want to see a dominant Milan, like Milan. When I arrived 4 or 5 years ago it wasn’t the Milan that everyone was used to and then we grew from there.”
Has the Scudetto team been too dismantled?
“I stopped, I’m 42 years old… I played in that team and I can say that this team today has more chances to win: it’s twice as strong. We won with that team but this one is better in terms of quality.”
As a result of the failure, Milan will miss out on a lot of revenue, not just in terms of prize money but also ticket sales. Inter or Arsenal would have been up in the round of 16, but now the Rossoneri will have to focus on getting UCL for next season instead.
Yes they know what they are doing. This team is much much stronger, and their goal is champions league next year.
That is final ac milan game. 63 million they gain from ucl this year. Without ticket sales and without commercial and TV revenue. If they lose ucl this year we can imagine impact on revenue.
I think final ac milan game this season is 4th position. If they lose that spot… than….no one knows what will happen.
” If they lose that spot… than….no one knows what will happen.”
I do. Milan will be forced to sell MM16, Theo & Leao. Maybe Reijnders and some others want to leave too. Without UCL none of the trio mentioned above will stay. Fact.
Maybe will be a good thing because we get a new owner… or become a serie b team… 50-50
Impact on the revenue?!!
And what about the impact on the fans?? 😔😔
Money, money money Unbelievable 😭😭
Have a nice evening!
GET OUT OF OUR FOOTBALL CLUB PLEASE.
This is the problem. Defending behaviour like this.
What? It was not a red card. Only a bi**h can say it was. Thankfully Conceicao and Ibrahimovic aren’t.
We don’t need Theo and Leo at MILAN any longer
F… you and f… Theo. Get the hello out of our club…
Theo is done and I’m glad. He’s been a waste and cost us far too many points and matches this season. The problem with this management is they think that players these days want to be one/club players…. This form of loyalty is dead, bar the few exceptions like Tonali, Barella, Di Marco. We lost the soul of the team when they sold Tonali and now we are full of foreigners that have no bond to this team.
They now need to let Theo and Leao go, because it’s obvious they want to go. It’s time. Bring back Tonali, and bring in Scalvini and Ricci. We go back to the old school Milan of 4321.
This should mark an end to Theo’s stupid behaviours on the pitch. The ref, for me, wasn’t harsh at all. If that had been done by a Feyenoord player, we would have asked the ref to book him. When some players keep misbehaving on the pitch, without thoughts of the consequences, one day, everything comes crashing on them.
Ok, lets look this way. Who ever played football match, knows that sometimes you have to make move like Theo did. Jump over player who is on ground to avoid injury. What if Theo jumped to avoid steping on this guy leg? How you can judge if his jump is fake move or necessery? I am not defending him, just explain from experience in the game.
The one part I agree with is that Theo was absolutely flying in his runs. Ppl don’t understand the pace with which he’s moving at. A small nudge and he’s flung like a ricochet. But alas, it’s probably not for this group/comment thread.
Dude stop please just stop smh there is no way to defend what he did why are you even trying?
Because it wasn’t a red card you pu**y. That is why. You little whiny bi**h.
Well the problem is not the dive, thats why he’s given yellow card.
But the bad bad decision he made, why he pull the shirt of feyenord player. Thats the main problem. He must calm down, dont do stupid things in a dead life match.
Thats make Theo very very looking bad. And Conceicao or Ibra must give him some treatment or punishment for his stupid temper behaviour.
let’s admit, theo did dive.. period.. the feyenoord defender even pull his leg back far before even touch theo. I hope this will give theo a hard lesson with his in-game decission making.
Game plan didn’t work. Period. And if game plan keeps failing, then maybe Mr. Sergio doesn’t know how to plan Milan’s games.
The day when this pathetic arrogant incompetent IbraClown will be sacked will be a happy day for me.
” These things happen on the pitch, he doesn’t look for it.”
That’s a bloody lie !
When he arrived in Serie A he was much more successful in his dives getting him freekicks but quickly all the referees in the league understood that he always attempted to cheat.
He is definitely one of the most high profiled divers around but comes short in comparison of for example a player like Neymar.
They are seriously defending this guy? He is incredibly stupid and has shown it time and time again. He is a child, and doesn’t respect anyone. The only person who he respected was Maldini who recruited him and babysitted him in every second training session, with extra effort so that this pink-haired guy can show what he can do. An obvious mistake being at the club, knowing the processes and intricacies in the dressing room and not selling him on time.
They mist sell him during the summer, there is no other way forward, Hernandez is done at Milan after this game. Someone from the EPL has to be willing to pay 20 million which is OK for 1 year until contract expires. If he refuses, bench him whole season and he qon’t play the World Cup.
Zlatan, shame on you to even think that this team is better than the one who won the title. You don’t even believe your own words. You and your boss dismantled a winning project.
This joke of a season can’t end soon enough. Dinamo Zagreb and Feyenoord? Seriously?
1000%👍
Yes it wasn’t a red card you pu**y.
-Why are people on here so critical of Zlatan? He is not playing any more and when He did He ruled! And fyi he does not have final say on who to trade or buy you morons…. Show respect for what He did for Milan (albeit He is not a “grease-ball”). As for Theo, I concur about his lack of effort and grinta. No bueno anymore.
Respect for the player not the manager
@Ibrahimovic: you killed milan by signing non-relevant players and made them must play while the important players were reduced to the bench e.g Tami Abraham-Gimenez.
A very stupid idea
Great job boss.
Red cards especially two yellows for me should be warning first by the ref I don’t watch elimination games to see reds its a waste of time.getting two yellows for diving is the softest yellow you can get besides maybe cursing or time wasting, way to harsh in my opinion.
Bro it’s simulation refs give cards for that, yes it’s soft but it does not stop them, no professional player can argue they didn’t know that if even us fans know it, they can try but there’s no excuse for what he did
As this is the future…..R.i.p Milan
You were great once
The ref was not harsh. The dive left him with no choice. The ones who do it well make sure there’s contact, but not Theo. It was simply too obvious and it’s the kind of thing we all hate to look at,
so the ref did exactly what he should have done.
Did this clown just say the current team is better than the Scudetto team? He is morphing into a typical American manager. What a delusional, arrogant excuse for a man. He is learning football management at our expense and the worst part is he isn’t even a good student.
The players are much much stronger.
But game play is disastrous.
This team does not have motivation. They play like below average NBA team. They have money and they don’t have urge for wins.
What is said in front of the cameras is different from what is said behind closed doors. Everyone will be blaming Theo. He will be sold in the summer.
“When I arrived 4 or 5 years ago it wasn’t the Milan that everyone was used to and then we grew from there.” and then tore it down gradually….and here we are
Only management believe this team is better than the scudetto team which explains why we this club is in disarray
Theo gave so much to Milan and now everybody wants to complain. We should’ve been 3 goals up by HT and everybody must just focus on the next game!Forza Milan !
“Theo gave so much to Milan and now everybody wants to complain.”
Because most of us are tired of living in the past. Zlatan was crucial in our scudetto-winning team. You want him to play too? He also has given so much to Milan. What Theo has done previously don’t justify/compensate his behavior/performances today. And that applies to everyone.
Let’s say the truth Abraham is still the best striker we have his efforts towards goal and hunger to score. If he was in the first half he would have score two goals
Our only goal is even cheap goal. Our new boy isn’t hunger for goal or I want to score many goals in a match
Are you related to him? 😂 I think even his own mother doesn’t believe he’s our best striker
Ibra will likely go out in June along with the clown Moncada.
“When I arrived 4 or 5 years ago it wasn’t the Milan that everyone was used to and then we grew from there.”
Maybe as a fashion brand selling overpriced cr*p but from sport perspective, no boss, we did not grew. Thanks to RottenBird Gerry and their strategy we regressed. Badly. To the point we are worse than 4 years ago. Banter era all over again.
You are a bit wrong. Milan did grow when Ibra came, but when Redbird took over it went back down. He came while Elliot was the owner.
Imagine pretending to be a fan of a club just so you can hate on players all the time. Tomorrow it will be Leao and after this Tomori. You’ are all pussies, realistically. At least most of you.
It was never a second yellow, but if any of you could run (just run, not that fast) you would know how hard it is to change direction, stop, etc. It wasn’t even a simulation.
It clearly is a second yellow card because he tried to fake a penalty kick. Had the referee initially awarded it then VAR would have come in and the pictures would clearly show that there was a dive and no contact at all so the referee would still have to give him the second yellow card.
This is not about opinions or whether people doesn’t want what’s the best for the club its about simple rules that the referee has to follow and players trying to fake a penalty should automatically get carded whether you like it or not.
Theo has by the way always in recent years been one of my favorite players at the club but he only has himself to thank for ruining our match and further progression in the tournament.
“The game’s rules state that “attempts to deceive the referee by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)” must be sanctioned as unsporting behaviour which is misconduct punishable by a yellow card.[3] The rule changes are in response to an increasing trend of diving and simulation.”
So if you fall in the box it is automatic yellow card? Doesn’t matter you are not asking for a penalty, that you were running in full speed, that you jumped up and then had to land somehow? I can show you 10 worse situations and nobody got a card, from this years CL. SO don’t try to convince into something that isn’t factually correct.
Doesn’t matter what you can find and just because other referees got their calls wrong doesnt make an extra wrong call more right. He clearly sought to get a penalty kick and you can easily see that he slows down a bit and then makes a jump without any contact. Hence why he gets the yellow card.
You should also take into the equation that the opposition could end up in trouble getting carded themselves so yes its clearly a well deserved yellow he got there.
It was never a 2nd yellow card. What are you talking about? It is like this is your first game. Players with yellow card made some horrible tackles and the referee wouldn’t give them the 2nd but warn them. Next one you’re out. Everyone knows this if you played even amateur football as a child, let alone professional sport. This is what Ibrahimovic said and that is the truth. NEVER A 2ND YELLOW. Basically you are trying to convince me this one referee is the only one that got it right. Does that sound realistic to you? Yes, everyone was wrong but this guy yesterday.
The self entitlement runs deep in you doesn’t it ? you basically think your opinions supercedes the rulesets as I already posted this above
““The game’s rules state that “attempts to deceive the referee by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)” must be sanctioned as unsporting behaviour which is misconduct punishable by a yellow card.[3] The rule changes are in response to an increasing trend of diving and simulation.”
Just admit you doesn’t have the minerals to admit that you are in fact wrong.
Martin. I explained to you exactly and I was trying to be nice. But you are trying to insult me, ok, let’s try your way. Maybe you are too ret***ed to understand that “punishable” doesn’t mean it has to be punished. So, in the case where it affects the game that much the referee should apply appropriate punishment and warn the player. However, can’t give a red card for simulation. Maximum penalty is yellow, can also be a warning. Was Theo already warned for some other tackle before this? Just one example out of this story. You don’t’ even fully understand the language you are reading and you are trying to explain to me something you don’t even understand. And you are telling me I am self-entitled? How about you don’t explain things you don’t understand? That sounds self-entitled to me.
It is actually really simple as you wrote to me. Actually 2+2, not hard that that. But you have to have a brain, use it and actually want to understand. Not use your predetermined conclusion before even evaluating the situation properly. That is the difference, not me being self entitled. People citing any law or rule and saying, here, it says this, without applying the actual situation to it, are usually mo**ns that don’t understand anything.
Well it wasn’t really to offend you but just a way of phrasing things.
The ref didn’t give him a direct red card he gave him his second yellow card hence why he got his red card.
I perfectly well understand what you said but it doesn’t make what you said right either.
If it was Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, City, Liverpool it wouldn’t be a red card. And only Milan “fans” would do this after a red card like this. I am disgusted by most of you. Thankfully the real fans that go to the matches are not like you. Goodbye!
Ha I’ve been a Milan fan for 35 years but sure I’m not a real fan you really should remove those blinders on your eyes because there was a dive. Guess Capellio and Boban is wrong and not real Rossoneri either. Sigh….
I am telling you what people at the stadium would think of trying to present the rule as so it had to be a red card for Milan. And not true.
You can also be a mo*on for 70 years, doesn’t really mean anything. 35 years doesn’t make you more of a fan or less. For me, trying to present the rule in this way is enough that you aren’t really. You don’t have to agree, your thing.
“Being a fan” for 35 years is irrelevant, it isn’t a seniority thing. 🤣
Never said I had seniority but if you toss around accusations about people then maybe you should at least show as much insight that you can understand that I’ve been supporting the club in good and bad times over such a long duration of time.
When was it faking a penalty? Did anyone ask for a penalty? Was there a reaction by anyone? Theo? Nothing, 0.
Would have to give him, that is not even true. Made up. The whole thing is ridiculous. Reminds me of when people were trying to convince me that Shevchenko made a foul on Puyol and the goals was cancelled rightfully. It was theft, same as yesterday.
It doesn’t matter whether he was demanding a penalty kick as he clearly dived so that is seeking one.
I don’t care what other peoples has said to you as it doesn’t have any connection with what i said and I’m posting facts here whether you like them or not they are still facts.
Theo should have been smart enough to not trying to do it when already having been carded once, simple as that.
Yes it does. It matters quite a lot.
Maybe in your own head but that is about it.
Ok Martin. You are such a genius. Remember to point out when this happens to Real Madrid, City, PSG. They get a red card for simulation. You aren’t even proper Milan fans, you are literally trying to say that something that wouldn’t happen to a player in Real, PSG, City is correct and right? Did your balls fall of by themselves or you cut them? What was it?
He was given a 2nd yellow card which then warrants the red card, Sure had he been given a direct red card for diving then it would be a different matter but he wasn’t.
Nobody wrote that. Read with understanding. 😀
Yeah I agree with you Igor, he didn’t grab his leg and roll around, he didn’t call for a foul or anything. No reaction. And we have VAR now, it’s not even possible to dive your way to a penalty. They all get reviewed.
He left his feet without contact in the box, that part is true. But I don’t think that warrants a yellow for simulation, and this rule should no longer apply inside the penalty box. It’s not possible to dive for a penalty anymore. The rule was meant to prevent diving, but VAR already does that.
It doesn’t matter, he clearly dived so its as simple as that.
Even if it in your OPINION shouldn’t apply it nevertheless DOES apply.
Rules are rules opinions are a different matter.
Martin, you don’t even understand the rules, I wrote to you up there. It is your opinion on how to understand those rules. Literally. We don’t need your opinion, it is just an opinion. 🙂
Dex, if it was Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, City, Liverpool it wouldn’t be a red card. If it was the fans of that club would go crazy. Milan “fans”, you can see. Trying to present the actual rules how it fits their idea of proving it is a 2nd yellow and a red card. Incredible, and these people are fans of the club, allegedly.
No you are the one who is not getting the rules as he clearly dived and whether he complained afterwards or not doesn’t matter.
The greater consensus amongst football pundits, former coaches and players is exactly that Theo messed up big time but sure I don’t get a thing.
it is not that you don’t get it but you are actively trying to prove Milan has to get a red card. Wow!!
You are just gaslighting,
Its not like I wanted Theo to get a double yellow that then ended up as a red one but the rules is the rules.
If it had happened with a Feyenoord player we would also have wanted that the referee took action wouldn’t we ?
The problem is our directors including Zlatan?
With the amount of class legends this club have how have we managed to burn through the best of them and end up with Zlatan of all people? No offense but I’ve never considered him a class person. The directors need to be held to account first and formost. They need to take responsebility for how they prepered this season, refusing to listen to the fans and than changing their minds 6 months later is disrespectful. Club run by clowns who tried to fix something that wasnt broken and broke it as a result.
