Ibrahimovic admits to being left ‘speechless’ by Milan fans and needing time to reflect on career

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that he will take some time to reflect on his achievements in a remarkable playing career before assessing his options for the future.

Milan might have scored three goals and earned three points against Hellas Verona in the final game of the 2022-23 season, but the night belonged to Ibrahimovic as he bid farewell to Milan and also announced his retirement from football.

He was interviewed by DAZN after the game and he was first of all asked to describe his thoughts having just shed tears and said goodbye to the game that he loves so much after such a long career.

“There are so many thoughts in my head, so much adrenaline. An ending with all these emotions… In a few days the adrenaline will drop. I’m not worried about the future,” he said (via MilanNews).

There continues to be a lot of speculation surrounding what might be next from Zlatan, from a potential job as a coach or a director to joining the Raiola agency or even going into show-business in some capacity.

“I’ll take time to enjoy what I’ve done. Later, if I enter my new life, I’ll have some thoughts and decide to do something, but the initial period I want to take time and feel calm, get used to training but without football. I’m curious, I’m hungry to do something and if I do it, I want to do it with a difference.”

There was not a dry eye in the house as the Milan fans and Sandro Tonali were visibly emotional during his speech, but the Swede even let go of his tough exterior and shed a few tears. He was asked if that was the real Ibrahimovic.

“It depends on the situations. As I said: Milan have now given me love, I have so many emotions for the club, I’m happy and I thanked everyone wholeheartedly. Anyone who knows me knows who I am. Then on the field I change and I have to do everything to win.”

Ibrahimovic was also interviewed by Pressing and gave some more thoughts on his decision to retire.

“I’m leaving because I accept the situation, I’m ready to leave football. It’s the right time. The finale couldn’t have been more beautiful and exciting. Today we saw what means to me football and Milan,” he said.

“Then the response I got from the fans was too strong, I’m speechless. I will never forget a day like this. Future still in football? Let’s see, anything is possible. Now I’ll enjoy what I did and I’ll process what I did.”
