Il Mattino: Serie A club have Pioli on list of targets in case of Milan exit

By Oliver Fisher -

While Stefano Pioli’s future as the head coach of AC Milan is not known, a report has claimed that a Serie A rival are eyeing him up ahead of the summer.

This morning’s edition of Il Mattino (via Radio Rossonera) talks about what might happen with the head coach position at Napoli in view of the 2024-25 season, starting with Francesco Calzona who is the interim at the moment.

Qualification for the next edition of the Champions League is the first prerequisite for evaluating the renewal of the coach but he must renounce the position he currently holds as the coach of Slovakia’s national team.

The paper adds that Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is not ‘twiddling his thumbs’ because he is also weighing up other ideas, such as Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano who ‘always remains among those at the top of the president’s wish list’.

In addition, Pioli is considered as ‘more than an alternative’ because he ‘has been on their radar for some time and could be part of a waltz of benches that involves other top clubs’. A lot will also depend on the outcome of the current season for the Rossoneri, who may wish to keep him.
