Inter star Lautaro responds to Milan legend over ‘not fair’ criticism with derby jab

By Oliver Fisher -

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez couldn’t resist having a jab back at AC Milan legend Billy Costacurta after some recent criticism that he received from him.

As Radio Rossonera write, the former centre-back Costacurta – who works as a pundit for Sky and therefore covers a lot of the big games – made a comment related to Lautaro’s tendency ‘not score in decisive matches’.

The Argentine is currently away with his national team and he was asked by TyC Sports about Costacurta’s criticism of his record in big games, and the Inter captain wanted to send a message with a nod to the Champions League derby.

“Everyone has his right to give opinions, but I don’t like when it’s not a fair one… it makes you feel bad when it’s not a fair one,” he said.

“To say that, when I scored against AC Milan in the Champions League semi-final, one of the most important games in both club’s history… not only for goals, but as a performance too.

“I invite him to watch that match again, not only that match, but other derbies too. I don’t care about that, because my name is already there so haha…

“But as I already said, I’m very calm and I don’t care what from outside they say. I’m only focused on myself and to demonstrate to my coaches and team-mates.”

The criticism in question came after the elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. It was a game in which Lautaro wasn’t too involved, but when he was he sent the decisive spot kick sailing over the bar.
