CorSport: ‘Internal tensions within Milan’ – Ibrahimovic-Conceicao relationship fading

AC Milan brought Sergio Conceicao to the club after the Paulo Fonseca experiment failed, but it seems that another decision could be made.

Things with Fonseca never really took off, and partnered with reports about a failing relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Portuguese never really seemed safe. His sacking, then, makes a lot of sense, considering he was sent on his way before taking charge of Milan’s game vs. Roma.

Conceicao was brought in to resolve things, and the Supercoppa Italiana showed signs that this was happening. However, it has quickly crumbled.

As Corriere dello Sport writes, via Calciomercato.com, there are already ‘internal tensions within Milan’ again, and once again, it involves the Swede and the head coach.

The report states that the two have opposing views, referencing the double sub against Feyenoord, which left Ibra looking ‘perplexed’ and then the fact that he also stated that Conceicao had two teams, which did not go down well reportedly.

There is irritation already between the pair, and once again, the relationship has not taken off. Reports this morning have already suggested that the Portuguese’s departure is not to be written off, even if the side qualify for Europe, and this explains why this would be.

  1. I have nothing against Ibra but in this case I think he needs to let the manager do his job and not put his every action under a microscope. If we would be pulling the trigger after every manager action that doesn’t align with us then for example Pioli would have been sacked after the Atalanta 5-0 trashing and we would never have won our last scudetto

  2. This show at Milan will never end until they get rid of Ibra and Moncada for a proper experience sporting director who knows how to build a winning team.

We can’t keep changing coaches. The real problem is Milan management and underperforming players like Maignan, Theo and Leao.

      1. The problem is that this coaches are fantastic but they failed to build their team, Paulo was about doing it before he was released of it duty, eg the benching of Rafael and Theo good movement introducing Jimenez, this guy’s need rest look at the futuro, pick some guys there and work with them, they are ready to give their all, try and rest mike is this continue, just tell the management to give you time to build your team, leave this guy Rafael.paulo also complain about this guy’s, Bennercer shouldn’t have been line, with the addition of Bond we are great

    1. È finito il tempo in cui si apriva bocca per dire sciocchezze. Non dovresti limitarti a parlare. Bisogna essere pragmatici. Il tempo delle barzellette agli ingenui è finito, addio Zlatan.

  3. I’m with ibrahimovic here. We haven’t seen anything different from Fonseca. We’ve got another coach that does nothing but complain, instead of looking for solutions.

    1. Some of you shouldn’t be watching football, cos you know nothing about football. A coach that took over mid season… what changes can he make? Will he do magic? He’ll need a pre-season to shape this team into his own team. The most he can do now is to manage the situation in the best way possible.

    2. Wasn’t Ibra who said that Sergio was the right coach for Milan? If Milan failed to get the right coach again, isn’t Ibra too to be blamed?

  4. Should have hired Conte in the summer – he was the right choice but incompetent Milan management went for cheap option with Fonseca. Conceicao got a team of underachievers and never really had time to properly train them and implement his ideas. Ibra doesn’t like him because he isn’t a puppet like he wants – Milan is going NOWHERE with Ibrahimovich, Moncada and Furlani! I’m not saying Conceicao is a good or bad coach – he wasn’t really given enough time yet and we already have king Ibra creating problems.

  5. Tensions should be with Geoff for the horrible midfield- which is the real reason for the teams inconsistency. Throwing forwards and “right backs” at the problem dont solve anything

  6. Ibra isn’t God. His days perch high as a player is over, its ground zero now. Let the coach do his job. Some players need to be scolded day in day out to wake up their ideas and play as a team

  7. When the management brings in the wrong persons time after time… Doesn’t that mean the management is at fault and should be replaced? Just asking for a friend. 🙂

  8. The coach is not a wrong choice mofos, fans always complaining here and there like a lil bitch. Players should stand up to the course and perform. Leao and other team members were frustrating to watch. Milan will go through the next round and people that don’t know how to kick ball will always have the worst opinions. We all know Feyenoord will pray for final whistle at the San Siro, so all y’all calm your lil nerves!!!

  9. The madman of Portuguese vs self proclaim king of milan.

Just give both of them glove and ring. And sell the tickets. It can be new stream of revenue. Maybe without champion league next season, we can still profitable.

  10. Sergio might not be the coach Milan need, but in any case Ibra should not intervene in the coach’s decisions. If the players see Ibra intervening in the work of the coach every now and then, how can one expect them to take the coach seriously?

  11. Should have hired De Zerbie when you had the chance. The guy was literally out of a job in summer. What a joke this club has become

    1. I agree that substitutions have been maybe the only thing Serge has gotten right since he’s been here, but taking off Pulisic, who has been our best offensive player all season when you are a goal down was not the right move.

  12. Should have just let Fonseca finish the season and see if he could have gotten the results because the performances were better and at least there a few positive glimpses of what the team could do if he could get everyone to buy in to his vision.

Under Conceicoa there has been no such performances to give any kind of hope. With the exception of the Coppa Italia match against Roma this team has not put in 1 good complete performancce out of 11 or 12 matches now. Take away a few miraculous second half comebacks and this team could/should have lost every match so far under him. But now we are stuck with him because what can you do, bring in a 4th manager in a year?

    1. Fonseca should not have been brought in the first place, but since he was brought and the team was declining at some point the question arises when one considers enough is enough and move on. Your argument is that he should have been trusted until the end of the season because of few good performances but the truth is the team wasn’t progressing under Fonseca. After the first derby which was a good performance, we were only 3 points away from first place and tied for 4th place, after the Monza game which preceeded the great game against Real Madrid we were already 8 points away from first place and 4 points away from 4th place and by the time Fonseca was sacked we were 14 points from first place and 8 points from 4th place. In december we only scored 3 goals in 4 serie A games. You can talk about performances as much as you want, but the results don’t lie.
Now under Conceição there have been no good performances, although his results are slightly better than Fonseca’s first 12 games. But my worries are aside from the lack for tactics which were expected given the lack of preparation, preseason and training sessions (we always played every 3 or 4 days under Conceição), although not as bad to be honest, mentally, the team is in shambles. There is no desire to win, there is frustation, stress,…

      1. Fonseca was trying to to change the way the team played to a more sophisticated style of football, which there was always going to be some growing pains and perhaps a few changes in personnel but in the long run would have better results. It didn’t help that he had Theo sabotaging him the entire time.

Conceicao is a regression back to Pioli style tactics but without the positives that Pioli brought , which was that the players really seemed to love playing for him and he managed to get the best out of the players.
In my opinion Pioli’s strength was player management. His weakness was tactics.
Fonseca was strong tactically. His weakness was player management.
Conceicao so far seems to be weak in both tactics and player management. And the constant screaming is going to wear thin very quickly if you don’t have some very good tactics to go along with it. Top players will not put up with that unless they see that you know what you are doing and are putting them in a good positions to succeed.

        1. You’re elevating Fonseca to more than he actually is. I don’t think even he thinks this highly of himself.
Fonseca is 51 y/o and been coaching since 2007, if he was such a tactician he would have found success prior to AC Milan. But the reality is, outside of the Ukranian Premier League, he never managed anything close to an actual success and there was no Théo to sabotage him prior to 2024. The team was going to a worse position with him. Remeber that in December, his last month, we only won 1 game out of 4 in serie A. To put it simply there was no actual basis to claim to think that he would eventually have gotten the team to a better position.
Conceição is so far doing a terrible job, both tactically and mentally but at least he has the claim to have once elevated a team to a good level and actually gotten the better of AC Milan in 2021 with Porto.
As for players, while I don’t endorse a particular method, but they also have to understand at some point that not every coach is going to pamper them (particularly Théo and Leão). Not all coaches are created equal in man managing, but I don’t understand why a fit player needs a particular reason or a speech to give 100% each game.

    1. And that is why they didn’t bring Conte. Because they all know he wouldn’t listen to their stupidity and would say publicly how bad Furlani, Ibra or whoever it is that didn’t get the players he wanted. So they got Fonseca who doesn’t raise his voice with his family, let alone players or management. THis is why Conceicao won’t be liked by them.

  13. Ibrahimovic, Furlani and Moncada’s clownshow is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to Milan. Even the Serie B years have their charm with Captain Franco and other homegrown players delivering their best in front of a sold-out stadium.

  14. I think ibra was a great player and that s it that does not mean that he can be a good in manegarial role .he has to leave the control of the players and dressing rooms in the hands of the coach and his staff and I think that Milan and red bird should leave ibra and Monday and furlaini to leave and in vest in true scouting and a professional sport director like this ac Milan are going to drown once and for a long time

  15. I’m always curious how reporters knows about management and coach relationships 😀 for me this article is bull….Conceicao has better stats then Fonseca and work with team 5-6 weeks .. yes few bad decisions was in last match but generally he looks like he know what he is doing. Also Ibra must see attitude of few players and really , it looks like this is the end between AC Milan and Theo and Leao, everybody needs change….Conceicao maybe make bad decision, but the result is players fault

  16. Imagine what the news articles would’ve said if Tammy or Francesco scored the equalizer after coming in…. Conceicao made a substitution reaction based on the options at his disposal on the bench.

  18. Sergio Conceicao is a long term solution that can deliver consistent trophies. Milan are always panicking about the short term, however, and so nothing ever gets committed to.

    It’s unfortunate.
