Journalist believes Mandzukic could get the nod in Milan’s encounter with Genoa

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been officially banned for one game as a result of the red card he received against Parma on Saturday. Therefore, Stefano Pioli will have to switch things up in attack, with a few options available.

Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic have both played in the centre-forward role this season, with mixed success, as Ibrahimovic has also struggled with injuries. However, it seems Pioli could opt for a different solution on Sunday.

Mario Mandzukic has finally recovered from his injury and was on the bench last time out, perhaps ready to make his comeback this weekend. Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, journalist Luca Serafini confirmed this is possible.

“Mandzukic? Without Ibra, I think he can be the first choice against Genoa. In Belgrade [vs. Red Star], he showed that once he’s in good condition, the class is still there,” he stated.

The No.9 will be eager to prove himself as it’s currently very hard to imagine that Milan will exercise the renewal option in his contract. Having said that, it might already be too late with just eight games left of the season.
