Journalist gives positive update regarding renewal talks for Milan star Pioli is desperate to keep

AC Milan are closing in on reaching an agreement with Hakan Calhanoglu over a contract extension, according to a report.

There has been much deliberation as to whether the Rossoneri will strike a deal with the Turkey international given that multiple sources have claimed he is requesting a mammoth pay rise.

The latest update from Marc Behrenbeck of Sky Germany on Twitter claimed that there have been ‘good conversations’ between the Milan management and the entourage of the player regarding an extension of his current deal, which runs out in June 2021.

According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Çalhanoglu is in positive negotiations over a contract extension with the Rossoneri management, and the 26-year-old is likely to continue his career with Milan rather than leave in January or on a free transfer.

The news comes as perfect timing after last night’s performance in which he registered a goal and two assists as Milan beat Lazio 3-2.

It comes after Pioli spoke to DAZN about Calhanoglu at the end of last night’s game, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews, and he sent a message about the importance of the player.

“I believe we are winning many games because we have very strong players. I wouldn’t trade them for anyone else, Calhanoglu is one of them. Ok, the spirit but then you need the quality.

“Calha is fantastic, he is intelligent, he knows how to move well, he knows how to attack and knows how to connect the game, he sacrifices himself. I want him at this level, at the top. We have many roles in which we are at a very high level, we must continue.”

Hakan’s renewal: “I don’t think there are any problems. Calha is very happy with us and with the club. I’m sure his will is to stay, then there is a negotiation. Club, technical area, me and the player want the same thing, he has reached important levels and can still grow. A player to bet on.”
