Journalist believes Kessie solution could decide the derby: “In one direction or the other”

For tonight’s game between AC Milan and Inter, Stefano Pioli has opted for a slightly different tactical approach as Franck Kessie should start as the No.10. A move that could be decisive for the game.

The Ivorian recently returned from AFCONs and is reportedly in good condition, having had several days to prepare for the game. Just like we saw against Empoli in the final game of 2021, he should start as the attacking midfielder.

This decision is most likely based on the fact that Pioli wants to contain Inter star Marcelo Brozovic, which is a job that fell to Rade Krunic in the reverse fixture. And compared to the Bosnian, Kessie will also add a lot of physicality in the box.

Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, as cited by MilanNews, Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti shared his thoughts on the tactical solution. He stated that it’s a change that could tilt the game in either direction.

“A practically unprecedented Milan will play this derby. Tonali, Bennacer and Kessie have played together only once, in Empoli, on Matchday 19. Pioli studied the opponent and understood that Empoli were good at building the game quickly from low.

“Kessie as an attacking midfielder emerged, very close to the opponent’s penalty box. He did so well that he scored the first two goals of Milan’s four. If confirmed, this will be a choice that will change the derby a lot, in one direction or the other.

“Inter are a machine of global harmony, to beat it you have to do something different. You have to scare them, break them down,” he concluded.
