Kalulu says his best position varies and praises Gabbia partnership: “I feel at ease”

By Isak Möller -

Pierre Kalulu and Matteo Gabbia were the starting centre-backs for AC Milan once again this afternoon as they faced Venezia away from home. It was a successful game for both as the Rossoneri kept a clean sheet.

Having played just two games together this season, it must be said that they deserve a lot of praise. It’s tough to get used to a new partner quickly, let alone replace the likes of Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli in the heart of the defence.

After the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Kalulu spoke to Sky Italia about his role and the partnership with Gabbia. Depending on a few Covid tests, they could be the ones starting against Genoa on Thursday evening (Coppa Italia) as well.

On him and Gabbia…

“In these two games, we did well. We have two centre-backs out with Covid, we must be ready and give our all for the team. When you win everything is better. With Matteo I feel at ease.”

On his teammates…

“They are helping us a lot. When you play in a role that isn’t yours, it’s normal to be a little scared, but when the team makes you comfortable it’s easier to play.”

On the role…

“To be honest it depends on the game: sometimes I feel better on the right, others on the left or centrally.”

On the defensive phase of Milan…

“For me, it’s not a problem to defend in 1v1 situations thanks to my speed.”

The three points mean Milan are now in first place in the standings, although it could be short-lived. Inter will face Lazio this evening and it should also be noted that their game against Bologna will eventually be played as well.
