Rafael Leao has been an important player for AC Milan in the last couple of years and during the Scudetto season, he had his main breakthrough. In a recent interview, the winger shared his most beloved memory from that season.
Looking back at the 2021-22 season, the Scudetto was indeed almost a miracle for Milan. Despite arguably having a ‘worse’ squad than the top contenders, they played as a team and thus managed to clinch points week after week.
In his interview with Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Leao shared his thoughts on the Scudetto season and more specifically his favourite memory from it. His answer is one that most Milan fans can relate to.
“One match in particular stands out. Against Lazio, with a goal from Tonali. It was a ‘team moment’, we didn’t give up until the end. After that match we understood that it was written, it was destiny, we knew that we would win the Scudetto,” he stated.
Leao has received some criticism in recent weeks for his performances but Curva Sud, the Rossoneri’s ultras, offered their support earlier today. It is clear that the winger is a fantastic player on a good day, and now he just needs to find that consistency.
Really missed Tonali 😔
When we sold Tonali, we sold that memory.
Just like we sold Locatelli’s volley, we sold Patrick Cutrone (Full stop. He had so many moments). We let Bonaventura go. And so on and so forth.
You can’t keep changing the squad and expect the memories to hold. They get diluted and ultimately betrayed when the player scores against you or becomes a hero elsewhere.
Pirlo is probably now considered more Juve than Milan.
The tragedy.
