AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez will leave the club this summer. With an expiring contract and a broken relationship, it was in the interest of all parties.
We can sit and remember the good of Theo, the Scudetto in particular. However, turning a blind eye to what has followed is difficult. In fact, the past two years have been filled with sub-par performances and the occasional highlight.

Despite this all, though, many will still remember the Frenchman in a positive light, and doing that would align you with Rafael Leao.
The end of Theao
In that Scudetto season, and past then, Leao and Theo were special. Seperate, together, whatever. They were fantastic and made huge differences to Milan’s positions. When they were good, they were special. Unfortunately, that has not been seen as much in the past 12 months, but their connection, as you’d expect, remains strong.
Yesterday, the winger posted his own farewell message on social media, with Theo’s exit all but confirmed, and MilanNews relays his words.
“My brother, my companion in many battles, together we have lived many beautiful and difficult moments, but it was a pleasure to be able to share the locker room and the pitch with you, my brother.
“I wish you all the luck in the world in this new phase. I will miss you so much, because over the years you have become an important person to me. It wasn’t supposed to end this way, but life is full of challenges. Good luck on this new journey, as always I will be rooting for you and for us!”

Man, you are truly an idiot. In your hatred, you forget the good times. I do believe that the magic is gone and it was correct for Theo to leave Milan and for the club to part ways with him, given that his form and attitude unfortunately became detrimental to the team and to his career.
But we shouldn’t forget the good times. According to an article today by MilanNews, when together on the field, Rafa scored 62 goals and Theo 29. That’s 91 goals. Ninety. One. Goals. Let that sink.
I know that you will say that Theo also conceded goals and his attitude was disruptive. While true, that happened more recently and wasn’t happening nearly as much when he was in good form in the not-so-distant past. By the way, it wasn’t like most other players were good, in these recent bad times. The whole squad and the administration and coaching staff all had a sharp dip in quality over the last couple of years. It was not just Theo (and certainly not just Rafa, who even in the bad times continued to produce goals and assists, 22 in total this past season, despite it being a horrible season for the squad).
Pretty much only Pulisic and Reijnders were consistently good; all other players had several moments of failure. So if you want to hate Rafa and Theo, you’ll have to hate everybody else except for Puli and Reijnders.
Our left flank inspired fear and was the nightmare of defenders. In all your hatred, you can’t erase this record of 91 goals coming from that sector, which is a fact. Denying it would be revisionism. Without these two players, we simply wouldn’t have won the Scudetto. They are champions.
Sure, all good things must end and the last one-and-a-half years weren’t good, but it isn’t in such a remote past that these players produced many good things for AC Milan, for which, if you only were a true Milan fan, you’d have to be grateful.
Again, I concur that Theo’s time with Milan is necessarily over, but while it lasted and clicked, “Theão” was a thing of beauty, and I profoundly doubt that we’ll be able to restore that chemistry with any other substitute.

I live in the present, not the past. Whatever good memories you have of Theo were whipped out by the way he behaved and sabotaged Milan last season. Hakan, Kessie, Donnarumma, Romagnoli and even Tonali finished their Milan career playing to the best of their ability, giving a 100%, even though they weren’t satisfied with their contracts or on the way out. They didn’t hurt the team on the pitch, Theo did.
Were Theo and Leao good for the team unity, as SJF said? Did they separate themselves from their teammates? Do people even understand what unity means?

The past can be erased by more recent sh1ttery people do. That’s why the cancel culture is so popular these days. People tend to live in “now” instead in the past. As everyone should. You can’t change the past so move on.

Emerson has significantly better defensive numbers in literally every category. Let that sink in, by every measurable data point Emerson was better than Theo by a wide margin. Not saying Emerson is good but just comparing Theo to an objectively poor player.
Theo is washed (has been for two seasons) I think there’s a very tea chance he won’t make the French squad for the wc.
I know. I said that his form has been bad. Other relatively young players who were previously great but now are also washed include Chiesa and Spinazzola. It happens. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be grateful to them for the good times.

Theo was great under Pioli. The problem was the coach. You won’t find a better duo on the left. If you do, they won’t come to Milan. If they do, it will cost the same. Very stupid, overconfident move.
I have realized every new manager’s priority was to leave out the relatively famous players the previous manager bought eho could become a star. From Suso to Kessie, Chalhan, Dona, to today, instead of selling the worst player, new managers in Milan always start trimming from the top, assuming they will find a better replacement for cheaper! Perhaps they want to erase any legacy from previous manager, afraid that then their success will be attributed to the previous manager.. but very stupid idea to think you are too smart to keep your star because you will find a spmeone as good who will cost half price. Maybe in their dream or in video games. Not in reality. And that’s exactly why Milan squad always sucjs despite spending hundreds of thousands.
