It would be safe to presume that nobody was doubting the importance of Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali to AC Milan, but their performances against Salernitana made it crystal clear.
Calciomercato.com recall that Tonali was strong, proud, determined in every battle he got into, while the Portuguese winger always managed to leave his opponents behind when he had the ball at his feet.
There are certainly some similarities between the two, as both began their adventure at Milan amidst difficulties and criticisms, and both are now simply two irreplaceable leaders on and off the field.
Tonali set up Leao for the first goal with a lovely through ball over the top, and three of the five assists provided by the Italian midfielder with the Milan shirt in Serie A were for Leao. Appreciation was shown by Leao in the celebration, as he shone the boot of the former Brescia man.
Sandro himself said some interesting words about Rafa after the game to DAZN, stating: “He’s always been at the centre of the project. Rafa doesn’t think about the transfer market. He’s a Milan player and wants to stay with us, we saw it even after the goal. We just have to hold on to him and love him.”
Tonali and Leão are the future of Milan, and the mission continues to get the latter to finally put pen to paper on a contract extension.
