GdS: Leao and Tonali a pair of aces for Pioli – they steal the show in comeback win

It was Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali who stole the show for AC Milan as they came from a goal behind against Hellas Verona last night to win 3-1.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about how the build-up to the game was dominated by the idea of a ‘Fatal Verona’ curse, but the Rossoneri shrugged that off to secure a huge win that means the Scudetto is now only four points away.

Leao and Tonali were authors of a great performance against the Gialloblu as the Portuguese winger, thanks to his continuous dribbles, was a thorn in the side of the Verona defence throughout the game and deserved his two assists.

Both assists went to Tonali, who scored his first brace for Milan on his 22nd birthday. He could have even had a hat-trick, but VAR chalked off a goal at the beginning of the game for a very marginal but still correct offside.

The aforementioned duo have finally made the leap in quality this season and their growth and maturation is on hand for all to see. It is around Leao and Tonali plus the other talented players in the young core that Milan are looking to build an exciting future.
