L’Equipe: Milan duo Hernandez and Maignan to start for France against Belgium

By Isak Möller -

France will take on Belgium in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 tomorrow and according to a report, Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez will keep their starting spots. Indeed, the Milan duo have been key for their country so far.

It hasn’t been a brilliant start to the tournament by France, finishing second in their group after drawing the last game against Poland. Out of the Milan men, Maignan has probably been the standout one while Hernandez certainly has been decent.

Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, is struggling for fitness and hasn’t been given that much playing time as a result. According to L’Equipe, Hernandez and Maignan are both expected to keep their spots in the starting XIs for tomorrow’s game.

France probable XI (4-4-2): Maignan; Koundé, Upamecano, Saliba, Theo Hernandez; Griezmann, Tchouaméni, Kanté, Rabiot; Mbappé, Thuram.

Belgium have been far from brilliant as well, with France heading into the clash as narrow favourites. Many of the more prominent nations have been caught a bit off guard and will be hoping to come to life in the knockout stage, but that’s easier said than done.

Rafael Leao will also be in action for Portugal tomorrow, though it remains to be seen if he will play from the first minute.

  1. Milans should use this formation. Adli as the deep lying playmaker. Reijnder and RLC as MC. Pulisic as AMC. Leao on the left ST. Samu on the right ST. Bennacer can play anywhere in middle. Musah as back up for both MC. Theo will be free to join the attack. because there is no pure winger
