Longo: Fonseca to contact Maignan ‘in the next few days’ as renewal gets closer

By Isak Möller -

Mike Maignan is reportedly getting closer to a renewal with AC Milan and more contacts are expected in the next few days. Given the success at the Euros with France, this is certainly good news for the Rossoneri fans.

Maignan, along with his Milan teammate Theo Hernandez, has been one of the key players for France in the big tournament. After knocking out Portugal, they will face Spain in the semi-final and it will be a difficult task for the defence, even if they will surely take it on with confidence.

In any case, Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com reported yesterday that Maignan is inclined to accept the renewal offer made by Milan. The journalist also adds that Paulo Fonseca will be in touch with the goalkeeper ‘in the next few days’ to reiterate his full esteem, as well as present the project.

Despite the success at the Euros, therefore, Maignan is getting closer to a renewal and considering that he currently earns just €2.4m per year, there should be a significant pay rise. Long overdue and well deserved.

Milan are hoping that Hernandez will follow, having also been linked with a few clubs in the last two months or so.
