Lorenzo Colombo spent this past season on loan at Lecce and did quite well, given that it was his first full season in the top flight. As a result, AC Milan have decided to keep him but a new loan is looming.
Colombo signed for Lecce last summer and managed to find the back of the net six times, assisting an additional two goals. Notably, he scored a screamer away at Napoli and that game ended 1-1, while also scoring the penalty that kept Lecce from relegation.
In short, he showed enough this season to prove himself to the Milan management, who will exercise the €3.5m buy-back clause in his deal, as per Daniele Longo. Lecce are set to pay €2.5m for the buy-out, meaning they will make a small profit.
As Longo adds, Colombo will be sent out on loan again next season and that makes a lot of sense, especially since Milan are working on signing a new striker. The 21-year-old needs all the playing time he can get and it remains to be seen where he will end up.
Honestly – I would give him a season in the first team. How badly can he do? He knows Serie A defenders very well by now, and he will be dying to prove himself at a top club.
He is not good enough yet to be a starter or a backup at a club like Milan, and having him as a 3rd choice, barely playing, is not good for his growth as a player.
I get what you mean and I think you will be right if we actually get rid of origi and get a better competition for giroud but as of right now he is better than what we got.
The right choice. 1 more loan year then bring back.
With current 4-2-3-1 formation, and 1 striker with Olivier Giroud’s style, it’s true Lorenzo Colombo don’t even stand a chance. Colombo will never deadly at aerial duel due to stands only 183cm (Giroud 192cm).
But if change to 4-3-1-2 with 2 strikers, Leao be the most advanced forward, and another striker go deeper than leao, Colombo with his very good shooting technique have a chance to compete the starting position.
He’s too slow. El Hilali is much better.
