Andrea Longoni has urged AC Milan to place faith in Santiago Gimenez amid rumours of a potential move elsewhere, seeing as his numbers are more impressive than some might think.
Gimenez arrived at the end of the January transfer window, following difficult negotiations with Feyenoord, and he managed to have an impact with 3 goals in the first five games. Then, however, it was a bit tougher as he only scored 2 goals after that.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, amid rumours that Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the striker, Andrea Longoni urged Milan to keep the striker and have faith in his abilities. As per reports this morning, that’s exactly what the Rossoneri intend to do.
“Rumours about a possible sale of Gimenez are starting to become frequent. Even if a great striker were to arrive (Vlahovic the dream), Milan cannot make the mistake of selling him.
“People make it sound like the Mexican has been a resounding flop, but that is not the case at all. Five goals in the league since January, one every 134 minutes. An excellent average, despite a decidedly penalising tactical and environmental context. Gimenez deserves trust” he wrote.
Seeing as Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic have departed the club, Gimenez is also the only striker available as things stand. The arrival of one more striker wouldn’t put his position at risk either as Max Allegri intends to alternate between two, and sometimes play them together.

Completely agree. I dont understand the ‘flop’ tag. Scored 3 in the first 5 yes but also he didn’t start as many thereafter,.only two more starts. Wrote this in a different article but bears repeating:
“Giminez has a per 90 of 0.68 goals for his first 6 months at a totally new club, new environment, new league etc. How on earth is that not good? On that form, it extrapolates to 26 goals if he had a full season – which is Capocannoniere form. What the hay! And I’m not even fond of his transfer but come on guys!”
