Longoni: ‘Raising salaries’ next step for Milan on their path to more success

By Isak Möller -

The main topic of discussion in the AC Milan environment lately had arguably been the contract renewals. The Rossoneri are working on extending Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao, which is forcing them to change their strategy.

Bennacer and Leao are both key players for Milan and they will expire in the summer of 2024. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have thus been in negotiations for quite some time to extend them both, which is proving to be difficult.

The wage cap is long gone and as highlighted by Andrea Longoni in his latest editorial for MilanNews, this is exactly the step Milan need to take. At a certain point, money needs to be spent to ensure more success and not lose every single key player for free.

The already completed renewals of Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Sandro Tonali are important, but the other two make up the real exam. Milan’s sporting credibility has been regained on the pitch and raising the salaries is now the next step, Longoni concludes.
