After yet another game without a clean sheet, losing 2-0 to Juventus, AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan shared his thoughts in the post-match interview. He made it clear that they must focus on the Girona clash immediately.
It was a very poor game from Milan as Juventus dominated possession from start to finish. In the first half, the Rossoneri had the better chances but in the second, the Bianconeri stepped things up. Maignan couldn’t do much about the goals, as also highlighted in our player ratings.
Speaking to MilanTV after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, the goalkeeper simply stated that Juventus were more clinical than them in front of goal. He also made it clear that focus must be on the Girona game.
On the match…
“They were more clinical and scored. Then we didn’t have any more chances to score.”
Today was a missed opportunity to catch up with Juve in the standings. Does it hurt morale or the standings more?
“For me, the season is not over until we stop playing. We must not give up, we must try to understand why tonight did not go well. We cannot give up until the season is over.”
The team’s approach in the second half…
“They won more duels. We could have scored too, they did it earlier and had more confidence to see out the game. Of course, I was angry, when you don’t win you cannot be happy.”
Did you have a muscle issue?
“I felt a little thing in my adductor, but it wasn’t serious. I wanted to get back on the pitch and not leave my teammates. I finished the match physically well.”
On Girona…
“We must not give up. In football, bad moments happen. After a draw or a defeat we cannot lower our heads and give up, but we must work. Now we have an important match in the Champions League, let’s think about that immediately.”
The Rossoneri’s game against Girona is scheduled for Wednesday and they need a win to keep the hopes of finishing in the top eight alive. Doing so would mean going straight to the knockout phase of the Champions League, with no play-off tie.
The same clichees over and over. How are these guys not getting physically tired of them? You must not give up? Pretty sure you already did, long time ago. We’re more likely to finish in the bottom half of the table than in Top 4.
Booo for Emerson Royal. He is truly Royal giving opponent 2 to juve. No hunger or spirit for the team. Great charity for hotspurs when Milan bought him. We have Calabria our captain.
Excuses after excuses !!! Milan game style should be to play most of the 90mins in the opposition penalty area with shots at every opportunity. Mangian shouldn’t have to the the ball that many times slowing every move forward. He should also get the ball forward rather spend eternity with the ball on the spot. Other teams are more active in going forward without delay and they achieve good results.
