Several Premier League clubs have begun to take a look at Tijjani Reijnders, and Manchester City are the latest club to take an interest in the AC Milan midfielder.

Players like Reijnders are increasingly rare in football. A player whose brain allows him to play across a range of roles in the midfield, and his technical ability matches it. Under Stefano Pioli, and now Paulo Fonseca, the midfielder has been heavily used, and for good reason.

In the past 12 months, he has grown into somewhat of a leadership role, and with the summer signing of Youssouf Fofana, he is reaching his best. However, other clubs are noticing this, especially in England, where there are a multitude of different interested parties.

As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan Press) write, Manchester City are the latest club to show an interest in the midfielder, and with Pep Guardiola looking to invest in the midfield, Reijnders is an easy option to look at, given he would probably excel in his system.

However, the report states that he is focusing elsewhere. Instead, he ‘only wants Milan’ and is focusing on a renewal with the Rossoneri, as opposed to moving away. Reports this morning suggest that the Diavolo are looking to extend his deal until 2030.

      1. Adli? FFS. He’s doing fine at Fiorentina, but he still can’t defend. Why do you think he’s thriving in a 5 man midfield? Just like Calhanoglu at Inter. They took a step up once the formation changed to better suit their strengths. Unless we switch to 3-5-2, Adli will continue to be sub-par with us. What we need is real DM to free Reijnders. Drop that DM next to Fofana in the double pivot and free Reijnders to push up. In a 4-3-3 that DM would be in the middle, with Reijnders to the left and Fofana on the right, both pushing up a bit.

        1. We could say the same thing about Adli for us. He was never tried at his original position. Neither was he tried with a DM to do the dirty work for him while he was free to express himself.

And we know management and Fonseca gave him away without trying to see his true potential. So it’s the same with Reijnders. Until he gets a true DM to pick up the blocks, his potential that is much talked about would never really shine.

I do wish we still had Adli though. At least that would be two creative players in Adli and Reijnders.
