Official: Massa will officiate Verona-Milan – the worrying precedent

By Euan Burns -

Davide Massa is set to officiate an AC Milan game for the first time in 10 months as he takes charge of Sunday night’s clash against Hellas Verona.

As has been confirmed by the FIGC (via SempreMilan.it), the Ligurian referee who does not have a good history with Milan is going to be in charge of their trip to the Veneto to take on the Gialloblu.

There is one particular refereeing decision that Massa once made in relation to Milan that has stayed strong in the memory of the fans.

That is the goal by Franck Kessie that he disallowed against Napoli. The 25-year-old was adjudged to have benefitted from Oliver Giroud’s pass, who was in an offside position after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

He was later shown the decision on the touchline and looked as bemused as every Rossonero.

Massa’s overall record with Milan is five wins, six draws, and four defeats.
