Massara confirms Milan’s desire to renew star trio: “We want to find a positive solution”

Milan’s sporting director Ricky Massara has shed some light on the situations surrounding the renewals of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hakan Calhanoglu.

For months it seems that Ralf Rangnick would be arriving as the new head coach and technical director of the Rossoneri, but last week it was confirmed that he will not be arriving as Pioli was instead rewarded with a new deal until 2022 after his excellent post-lockdown form.

Now, media attention has turned to how Milan want to secure the futures of the players that Pioli has built around, including the trio mentioned in the introduction. There are positive rumours regarding the situation of each.

Massara spoke to Sky Italia before Wednesday’s clash against Sampdoria, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.

On the renewal of Ibrahimovic, he began: “We are talking to Raiola, we want to discuss serenely and away from the spotlight.

“There are many things to evaluate, even Ibra’s spirit to continue this beautiful adventure that has been extremely positive. We are all very happy and he too is.”

On if the renewal of Donnarumma or that of Ibrahimovic is easier: “They are different situations, which for particular reasons present particularities. But we want to find a positive solution for both and also for us.

“Donnarumma has a contract, but an agreement must be found to build a future together. On Ibra, however, there are shorter times.”

On the renewal of Calhanoglu: “We are happy with what he is doing. He is expressing his full potential and we need to talk to his agent for him too, but we are already doing it.”
