Mediaset: No room for Ibrahimovic in Rangnick’s Milan – he will build around Rebic and Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

The future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at AC Milan seems to be settled, a report claims, at least if Ralf Rangnick takes over as head coach.

SportMediaset are reporting (via MilanLive) that Ibrahimovic is not part of the project that will be entrusted to Ralf Rangnick, due to the salary requests and also due to his style of play, with the German preferring a more mobile forward and not a target man.

Instead, both winger Ante Rebic and forward Rafael Leao will be the basis of Rangnick’s new-look youthful Milan, with the Croatian currently the top scorer in all competitions while the Portuguese needs some help to recover his confidence.

Leao has scored just twice this season and has struggled for game time since Rebic’s explosion in 2020, but the duo could co-exist depending on what formation the 61-year-old chooses to opt for.

For Ibrahimovic meanwhile, he will have the choice of whether to try and play for another team or whether to hang up his boots for good and end a 21-year senior career.
