GdS: Milan ready to invest €80m gross to protect three key pillars of the future

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s mission between now and the end of the year is to get three more of their key players to renew their contract, according to a report.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports, the fact that Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu walked away for free last summer and Franck Kessie is now playing hardball means that the management are now taking amore proactive stance to renewing their key players, as seen through the extensions of Calabria, Saelemaekers and Kjaer.

Now, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working on getting Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao to extend, even if all three have contracts expiring in 2024. First there will be the renewal of Stefano Pioli, whose deal expires next June, but then efforts can be focused on protecting the core of the squad.

The French full-back and the Algerian midfielder currently earn around €1.5m net per season and could have their salary almost tripled, while the Portuguese winger is expected to rise from €1.4m to around €3m net per season. This means that Milan are ready to invest another €80m gross to protect three very important pieces for the future.
