Di Marzio: Milan consider Chelsea duo and Fiorentina star as alternative solutions to CB issue

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a number of targets on their wish list as they aim to get the right centre-back in during the January window, it is claimed.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews) reports that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are waiting to see what budget Elliott Management make available and that will decide whether they can make a serious investment in a ready-made defender or pursue another formula like a loan.

The journalist claims that the latter is more likely and it could include an option or obligation to buy. Milan will also perhaps be attentive to players who can no longer find space at other top clubs, so essentially like January of this year when Fikayo Tomori arrived on loan from Chelsea with option to buy.

At the top of the list of Maldini and Massara’s preferences is Andreas Christensen who has not yet renewed his contract with Chelsea expiring in June 2022, but the feeling among the management is that he is more likely to extend with the Blues.

Another Chelsea defender in Malang Sarr is being monitored as he is struggling to find space this season, while Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic is on the list too as a profile who – despite being just 24 – has a fair amount of Serie A experience.
