Diaz says Milan are ‘dreaming’ of the 20th Scudetto this season

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan midfielder Brahim Diaz has said that the team are ‘dreaming’ of winning the 20th Scudetto in the upcoming season.

The former Manchester City man gave an interview to Spanish newspaper AS (via Milan News) where he talked about the team’s hopes for the upcoming campaign.

He was asked about what sort of team the e fans should expect to be this season and he says it will be one that is desperate to win the Serie A title once again.

“A team that is more aware of its strength, that is dreaming of the 20th Scudetto and that will fight match after match to win it,” Diaz said.

“I feel very good here, both personally and professionally. I want to give my all for this club and continue to grow. I liked having responsibility and pressure, I feel I have grown. I am a perfectionist and I know I can improve a lot.”

He also talked about how the Rossoneri should be aiming to do much better in the UEFA Champions League this season than they managed to do last season when they finished bottom of the group containing Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Porto.

“Yes, we can do more. We have a squad that mixes youth and experience, and a club that, like few, knows what the Champions League is. We have won an important title, we have grown and we will be a first seed in the draw. We have to believe in ourselves,” he said.

Diaz had a very mixed campaign last year as in the early stages he was one of the main creators in the team. After he had Covid-19, he couldn’t get back to his best.

“At the beginning of the season I felt good, mentally and physically. I proved I was the footballer I want to be,” Diaz said.

“Then it is clear that Covid left me out for more than a month. It caused me some physical problems, when you are fit and you stop you recover your level is not easy. With time I felt good again and I am happy with the part I played.”

Not being considered Scudetto favourites last season

“We are a young group, it was normal that many thought so. A unique chemistry was created between the players, the club and the fans. We all eventually started to believe in it and in the end the result surprised us.”

Favourite victory of the season

“The one that gave us the Scudetto, of course. However, what made the difference was the comeback in the return derby with Inter. I came on when we were trailing 1-0 and I remember with pride that I helped the team overturn the result.”

Relationship with Pioli

“He has always given me confidence. He knows what I can give him and has helped me grow as a player. He’s an excellent coach and a very good person: I’m grateful to him.”

Best memory from the Scudetto party

“The bus ride. It’s incredible to experience something like that. At that moment you realise what Milan represents for its people. The people were crazy about us and I’ll always remember that. We brought Milan back to where it belongs.”

Theo Hernandez’s form

“He is an exceptional player. He has physique, quality, tactical intelligence. I always knew he could go very far and he is already one of the best there is in his position.”

Importance of Ibrahimovic

“Ibra, for us, is fundamental on and off the pitch. He continues to give us advice and it’s impossible not to improve by watching what he does from day to day. In the dressing room we knew about the sacrifices he made for his knee. There are things you can only understand if you live them.”

    1. agree. the stars do not align that often, we win again this year and I will be convinced that Pioli can walk on water.

  1. Pioli give you many chances, but you never proof your words. You do not have physical strength to play as No. 10 in Italy that make you cannot hold the ball a bit longer to make assist. Adli far better than you to play in the position. I would be better for you to return to Madrid when CDK join Milan.
