AC Milan respond to ‘harmful’ and ‘totally unfounded’ Leao renewal story

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have offered an official response to the rumours that La Gazzetta dello Sport were circulating this morning regarding the future of Rafael Leao.

The paper (via MilanNews) reported this morning that renewal talks between Milan and Leao have stalled because of a disagreement over the release clause that would be inserted in his next contract, with the winger hoping to have it at €70-80m but the Rossoneri wanting to keep it at €150m or even remove it.

They also stated that technical director Paolo Maldini had spoken personally with Leao to try and make some progress but that the meeting was brought to an abrupt end.

However, Milan have decided to issue a public response to the article and have essentially denied any truth to the rumours presented by La Gazzetta.

“With regard to the article published today by the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport entitled: ‘Leão Milan total break’, Milan would like to clarify that the negotiation with Rafael Leão has not suffered any interruption,” the club said on Twitter.

“The journalistic narrative of an alleged frost between the parties is not only totally unfounded but also harmful to the Club and its player. AC Milan continues, in fact, the dialogue with Leão and his entourage in a serene and professional atmosphere.”

  1. They should be trying to strengthen the squad or at least getting rid of the players that are just collecting checks instead of responding to a newspaper story on the last day of the mercato.

    1. They literally are, why don’t you help and start making calls if it’s so easy. Ppl don’t buy trash, this isn’t fifa or football manager you child!

      1. Those players that you call trash were bought by Maldini, which means that people do buy trash, or at least Maldini does.
And the job of a sporting director isn’t easy, that’s why we shouldn’t have someone with no prior experience in that position.

        1. Had Enzo Fernandez or Krava been signed last summer, they would be sat on the bench because Pioli doesn’t trust newbies. We have no real idea if the players that were signed are capable of making a difference because they haven’t been given enough playing time. The issue isn’t Maldini, it’s Pioli.

          1. Which one of the players Maldini signed were actually on the level of Enzo and Kvara prior to their moves to Napoli and Benfica?
Enzo was one of the best players in South America.
Kvara was one of the best players in the Russian league.
Outside of CDK, the rest of the new players were either in 2nd league in Germany (Thiaw), fighting to avoid relegation (Vranckx) or got relegated ( Adli).
Also, Pioli seemed just fine using newbies and young players the last couple years like Tomori, Saelemakers, Diaz, Dalot , even messias . Maybe the players they gave him this summer are just not that good

          2. “Which one of the players Maldini signed were actually on the level of Enzo and Kvara prior to their moves to Napoli and Benfica?”

Now that’s easy: CDK. He had showed wonderful skills last season in UCL. How about Kvara? And especially Enzo? Zero. They had done nothing in the most respected club competition before the summer.

I’ll even add another. Origi. Champions League winner. Scored in the final. EPL champion. Etc.

            Your move. 🙂

          3. “1st. if you actually try and read instead of hurrying up to respond and act like you are smart I literally said “outside of CDK”.”

Well… You didn’t exclude CDK in that question. You excluded him later on another list which didn’t refer to the question: “Outside of CDK, the rest of the new players were either in 2nd league in Germany (Thiaw), fighting to avoid relegation (Vranckx) or got relegated ( Adli).”

And about Origi. You asked a simple question and I gave you answers. Just because you got pnwed by my answers don’t mean I was wrong. I’ll quote you once again: “Which one of the players Maldini signed were actually on the level of Enzo and Kvara prior to their moves to Napoli and Benfica?”

So… Answering CDK and Origi are 100% valid answers here. Like it or not. 🙂

        2. @bb
1st. if you actually try and read instead of hurrying up to respond and act like you are smart I literally said “outside of CDK”.
2nd ,Kvara and Enzo were among the best in their leagues, something that vranckx, adli and thiaw were never.
Enzo is worth 120 mil and Kvara is worth close to 100 mil now, what about the Maldini signings? What are they worth?
3rd ,you trying again to act smart, don’t hurt yourself now, by mentioning Origi. Origi lack of use by Pioli is because he was injured, not because he doesn’t trust him because he is a new player. But Maldini signed him while he was injured.
Everyone on planet earth are saying that Maldini mercato was 💯 💩, except Maldini fanboys.
And when it comes to @Forza Milan, why don’t you tell us again how good Ochoa was and how he proved vs Milan his great form, after his great games for Salernitana vs Inter, Juventus and Lazio earlier in the season. Even though the game vs Milan was his 1st game ever in Italy.
Or tell is how Pioli used Bennacer and Tonali way more than Kessie last season, even though Kessie played double the amount of games and minutes than Bennacer. Did you learn that from football manager?

          1. Salernitana lost 8-2 against Atalanta with Ochoa as GK.

You wrote stupid stuff. Just stop. Don’t make yourself looks dumber than this.

    2. They tried and are still trying. That’s why many deadwoods already left or sold. You can see there’s no more Castilejo, Duarte, Laxalt, Conti, Caldara, Hauge, and Dollaruma brother name in the list. And now they’re trying to offload Bakayoko and Balo Toure which already reported by many sites.

Responding to a newspaper story doesn’t take 5 minutes. So i’m not sure why you think they neglected their job just because they responded to a newspaper story.

Like Nelli said, maybe you should apply as Milan technical director if you think you can do better job than Maldini.

Proof it that you’re not just only talk and act like a genius just because you played Football Manager 😂

  2. The negotiation style needs to change. A lawyer with a preagreement needs to be ready. Let the player fill in their demands and get them to sign it. Once Maldini brings back this letter of agreement, all it needs is Big Boss to sign and it takes effect. The situation now is each time Maldini goes back to get big boss agreement, the player changes its demands and ask for more. Endless cycles resulting in no renewal signed.
