Former Milan midfielder on Pioli: “He seems less calm than Ancelotti”

By Euan Burns -

Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has said that he thinks Stefano Pioli is less calm on the outside than Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking during an interview on the Tutti Convocati programme on Radio 24 (via Calciomercato.com), Ambrosini said something that could be construed as criticism for the current Milan manager.

Ambrosini’s time at Milan coincided with when Ancelotti was the coach and they won the previous Serie A title before the 2021/22 triumph last season.

He suggested that Ancelotti is much calmer on the outside than the current Milan coach but that is not necessarily a bad reflection of Pioli.

“Pioli seems to me a little less calm than Ancelotti even externally. Carlo centred the fiery moments and they were often internal. Stefano always tends to raise the bar strongly.”

Ancelotti is widely regarded as the calmest looking elite manager in the sport so it is very hard to give the Italian a run for his money in that respect.

Pioli will be hoping for a calm game on Saturday evening as his Milan side take on Empoli at the Castellani.

  1. Ancelotti looks calm because he always got world class players lol.

Just look at how many legends he has when he coached Milan. From Sheva, Pippo, Seedorf, Rui Costa, Rivaldo, Beckham, Nesta, Maldini, Costacurta, Stam, Pirlo, Crespo, etc. Then the players he coached at Parma, Juve, Madrid, Chelsea, PSG, and Munich.

The only clubs where Ancelotti didn’t get plenty of world class players was Reggina, Napoli, and Everton

If Ancelotti swap his position with Pioli right now, i bet he would lost his hair in a week lol.

  2. that’s not true, Ancelloti’s made legend out of what he had. Pirlo was made world-class when Ancelloti changed him from a Trequartista to a regista! Mould Kaka, cultivate seedorf into a deadly playmaker, free up Mikel deep playmaking skills at Chelsea, allow Ibrahimovic to flourish in one of his most productive goalscoring period at P.s.g unlike his previously still time at Milan & Barcelona. Made Di Maria time at Madrid his best footballing time that led to the decima. Made Napoli and Everton had one of their best season. Even now had transformed the unproductive Vinicius and Rodrigo into one of the most deadly duo in world football. He is a mile ahead of pioli…and if he comes to Milan, the team will be better off.

  3. Pioli job is or was way more difficult than Ancelotti’s, that’s why he seems more anxious. He walked into a mess with not a lot of talent player wise nor financial power to aquire better players . He has been unbelievable. No matter what obstacles he faces ,injuries suspensions, lack of funds he always sets up the team to play to win.
Love Carletto but he had a team full of superstars at Milan. Pirlo owes his career to Ancelotti but the rest of the players were already very good to great before they played for Ancelotti.
It might sound harsh and ungrateful but Ancelotti and those Milan teams of the 2000s underperformed based on the talent in the squad. Yes they won 2 UCL titles but only 1 Scudetto and 1 Copa Italia.
