Milan director Moncada names some of his best discoveries as a scout

By Isak Möller -

Geoffrey Moncada recently spoke to AC Milan’s official channel, MilanTV, about his career and the journey to the Rossoneri. Among other things, he named some of his best discoveries while working as a scout.

Moncada was promoted to technical director of Milan in the summer, taking over Paolo Maldini’s role, after working as the chief scout for several years. Before joining the Rossoneri, though, he did a tremendous job with Monaco.

Monaco were in Ligue 2 when he started at the club and he helped them win Ligue 1, as well as reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. In the long interview with MilanTV, he named some of his best player discoveries as a scout.

“Bakayoko, Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Mendy, Djibril Sidibe, a lot of French players, Valere Germain. We’re proud of these players. We played in the Champions League, won Ligue 1, we played the semi-final against Juve which we lost. It was great to see a group that was formed three years earlier growing so much.

“Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Youri Tielemans, Anthony Martial etc. They are still playing, and at big clubs as well. Lemar is at Atletico Madrid, we saw him at Caen playing for their second team pretty much. That’s when we chose him. Martial too, who was playing for Lyon B,” he stated.

On our Substack, we highlighted the key quotes from the interview, sharing our thoughts on what we found particularly interesting. While he was unknown when he arrived at Milan, it’s clear that Moncada had already achieved a lot at that point.

  1. Moncada should have stayed behind the scenes. He does his best work that way. Making him a visible figure may turn out to be a mistake.

  2. Lol.. dude never able to find someone like Fabinho or Silva for Milan since last 4years or more for Milan

Dude is more about publicity and no real work has done since last few months
