Former AC Milan defender Luca Antonini has said that the Scudetto win was the ‘crowning achievement’ of the work done by everyone at the club this season.
Speaking during an interview with Milan News, Antonini took stock of what has been an incredible campaign for the Rossoneri that resulted in a first title since 2011.
When asked what his feelings were upon seeing Milan lift the trophy, he said: “Total happiness, it was the crowning achievement of an incredible job done by all the protagonists of this season.”
Milan have arguably been building towards this moment since Elliott Management took control of the club four years ago. Many feel the Scudetto has arrived ahead of schedule.
Antonini says that the work to win this title started very far away from the eleven players who made it happen on the pitch at the Mapei Stadium.
“From afar, from very far away. From the right choice of men and professionals who turned out to be the right people in every respect.
“This is a project with solid foundations. It has been built on a base of great commitment.”
Antonin also talked about the role that Swedish forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic played on and off the pitch this season.
“Zlatan feels this title even more as his own, it is no coincidence that he has changed the history of this club once again.
“He arrived two and a half seasons ago in an incredible situation. Yesterday he brought the Rossoneri colours back to the top by making an invaluable contribution on and off the pitch.”
He also had a lot of praise for Stefano Pioli who led the team through a very difficult season with a lot of injuries.
“He organised the group with serenity, tranquillity, and impeccable management. Elements like Leao have exploded also and above all thanks to these aspects.”
