MN: Milan’s revolution ‘must wait’ – three deals fall through and €80m vanishes

There has been a lot of talk about further outgoings for AC Milan but in the end little has come of it. As a result, the mercato has slowed down.

As MilanNews writes, with the sales of Tijjani Reijnders, Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino, Milan have already secured €73m, effectively covering the lost revenue for the next Champions League even if it will be banked in the 2024-25 accounts.

However, it is a figure that looked like it would be higher, both due to the relatively low fixed part of the fee for the Dutchman but above all due to the failure to complete three outgoing operations that until ten days ago seemed closed.

Exits collapse

Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Yunus Musah could have brought in at least €80m. To date, though, these are deals that have failed for various reasons.

More specifically, Chelsea’s unacceptable offer means that Maignan has not gone anywhere, Theo’s refusal to move to Saudi Arabia and the lack of agreement with Napoli on bonuses regarding Musah.

These are negotiating tables that could reopen, especially for the American. A new meeting with Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna is planned, but in fact the Rossoneri’s window finds itself conditioned by three important slowdowns.

In fact, without these €80m, we are currently witnessing a stagnant incoming market if we exclude Luka Modric, who is destined to arrive on a free transfer at the end of the Club World Cup. The impression is that something will only be unlocked in the next month.

A year ago, at this time, Milan were still at a standstill, registering their first purchase (Alvaro Morata) on July 19, and then unleashing themselves in August. Back then, however, they only had to shore up the team that had not sold any big names.

  1. I can’t say I’m shocked by how they approach this, I’ve gotten used to the fact that Milan is just a business to the management.

    1. Let’s let them all go on a free instead and make NO profit, and they’ll use this excuse to sell Leao at a lower value than intended this summer.

  2. Imagine a club is willing to give you a lot of money for a guy who has been catastrophic for two years, like a fcking miracle, but the pagliaccio in charge says no I want more. If you think that Inter is Milan’s biggest rival, you need to meet Furlani.

  3. Milan 25/26:

    Mike
    Emerson Tomori Pavlo Terracciano
    Musah Fofana Modrić
    Pulisic Gimenez Leao

Maybe another midfield coup on a free, Partey aka Muntari v2.

    Banter times ahead.

  4. Just focus on selling Emerson Royal, Colombo, Morata, Bennacer, Chukwueze etc.

Mike & Theo aren’t going anywhere which is surprising to everyone as they’re the best in the world and any club should be thrilled to get them and pay 10M€/season, right?

  5. We are constantly told by the little man banker we don’t need to sell – BUT – then we sell

We are constantly told by the little man banker that we can spend – BUT – we still cannot spend until we sell MORE players???? Ya cause it’s really Mike or Theos fault we can’t buy players??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When will those idiot Redbird Lovers realize what many of us have been saying since they took over our beloved club that these donkeys have NO intention of building a title winning side. They only care about making $$$ for shelters and keeping valuations high for an eventual sale. Yet I still read the same comments over and over again of these foolish Redbird Lovers actually holding out hope Redbird will change their policy and build us a consistent winner – HA!!!! Keep fkn dreaming kids!

This is what we are dealing with and will continue to deal with no matter who comes in as a coach or sporting director. Same old transfer cap, wage caps and frugal spending – never enough to build a winner but just enough to tease the gullible fans that actually believe these owners wanna build a winner. Ya right. UCL QUALIFICATION is all the care about for that $$$. Tiji was sold (BELOW market value) to cover the LOSSES from missing UCL. And now we will replace him with Xhaxa??? 34 years old. Wonder why? Perhaps because he only makes 2.5M/Season? Just a wild guess 🤣

Tare and Max don’t know what they have gotten themselves into. Wish them all the best but they will soon realize this is not the way clubs that aspire to win TITLES are run

    2028 cannot come soon enough

    1. I see you’ve found your scapegoat.

This summer, we can look two ways:
      – Short term players with a point to prove who can get us back into Europe
      – Long term players who we will have to massively overspend on because we can’t offer European football

Now it’s not even July yet and you’re blaming the club for not spending enough? We spent loads in the last two years, a lot of it not too wisely. The club spends money. It wants to make money… they’re not idiots – they know the value from the club isn’t from selling players to make a few bob, it’s from long-term raising the club’s value.

But we’re not bankrolled, and we should be spending wisely. And selling; we have too many players on our books. This is not a good summer for us buying highly sought after prospects with lots of choices. We need to rebuild the club first to make those types of purchases more affordable and more beneficial in future. We need to be buying players that will need more development and are cheaper… but do you trust the club to develop them at the moment? No, but it feels like we’re at least realising we need to and doing something about it. Zeroli’s loan, getting experienced player-coaches in… this is the groundwork.

      1. Well if they’re not idiots they’re very committed to look like it.

You’re mistaken anyway. Nobody in the front staff is looking to achieve football success. Furlani is here to watch Elliott’s asset, keep its valuation at its best in case redbird fails to repay the loan. The money spent is the cash flow from the club’s wallet, there are no long term commitments like big fees transfers split on several years (like some credit) or big contracts over several years. They want to spend as little as possible while reaching top 4 for UCL money.

Tare and Allegri are the new Fonseca/Conceicao, cheap scapegoats easy to offload if/when the fans start to protest (again).

        1. There are a lot of coaches cheaper than Allegri

They best way to have a valuable asset is to achieve on the pitch

I would count being a consistent UCL team each year as a success right now, compared to our current situation

And yes, money spent is based on money earned. Like most clubs.

Your point about not spending money over multiple years doesn’t make sense; most signings we’ve made in the last few years have been exactly that – long term gambles.

The issue is that we’ve taken the wrong ones or not constructed a team to get the best out of them. We’ve signed tonnes of players on five year deals (the max allowed in Italy) but they haven’t all worked out and now fans just demand more. Spend more, spend more… like the previous ‘Banter Era’ wasn’t started by a big spending splurge that completely failed…

My main point is that spending long term this summer, when we’re out of Europe and look like a basket case, will cost more for the same players. Look how much Man Utd are spending on mid table EPL players this off season, because they have to spend extra if the team isn’t competitive because players are loathe to move there.

We have a big squad, it lacks experience – all I’m saying is that I understand a bit of short term mentality to mix in with our long term investments this summer.

        2. “ Furlani is here to watch Elliott’s asset, keep its valuation at its best in case redbird fails to repay the loan. 2. Yes yes yes ANOTHER REBUILD – wonder if we’ve heard that before lol.

Before you pop-off, READ what I actually said @R because you actually proved my point with it even realizing it lol.

“ The club spends money. It wants to make money… they’re not idiots – they know the value from the club isn’t from selling players to make a few bob, it’s from long-term raising the club’s value.”

Yes “raising the clubs value” – is ALL they care about. However what you and Redbird don’t seem to realize is that the only way you can do that is to WIN CONSISTENTLY. Real Madrid, Barca Bayern Liverpool etc…are the world biggest clubs and WORTH the most VALUE because they WIN TITLES. That is what increases the VALUE of the club. NOT fighting to finish top 4. We BECAME Milan because we won TITlES under Berlusconi. Nobody would have given a sh*t about us if we didn’t win UCL’s and Scudettos. Wake up kid. Madrid is worth Billions because it has 15 UCLs and wins their league almost every year. Selling merchandise, improving marketing and sponsorship revenues is great – BUT that will only take you so far. To really increase the value of your club means you have to WIN and do so CONSISTENTLY – and you CANNOT DO THAT if you are constantly REBUILDING and selling your top players and replacing them with cheaper younger (and cheaper salaries) players every time they become good and you cash in. The highest valued teams (which is what you said Redbird goal is) don’t operate like that. You won’t get top sponsorship $$ if you don’t win. We secured a large PUMA app ship deal cause we won’t the Scudetto and went to semi finals in UCL. U think that same deal will increase or decrease when it comes time for renewal if we don’t win anything and are just happy to finish in a Europa spot lol. Wake up my son. Wake up and smell the roses and stop drinking the Redbird kool-aid

        1. Everything you spat is 💯 on the money. And to add, we even won trophies before Berlusconi came along.

So Milan had always been punching high even before big money Silvio. And we were also attracting some of the greatest players of all times even back then 50s to 60s.

But somehow people believe that history and traditions can be sacrificed on cheap untested experiments.

It’s actually alarming that there are still Redbird banner men. At this point it’s a mental disorder and not normal at all. 3 years down and people still believe Redbird is cooking🧐🤔🤦‍♂️ I would laugh, but this is no longer a laughing matter

      3. A very good excuse for Redbird.

        A new one every season.

Kinda like a series or a franchise now.

The excuses “fans” make for Redbird. And it’s still going string so it must be a big hit.

  6. if we sell, you write headlines like ‘not able to keep the best players’, if we dont sell you write ‘deals fall through’. i’d say if the other party is not willing to meet our demands then there is no deal that could fall through. but ok, Milans business is to run a club, your business is to make some hotblooded idio.. write hate posts about the management.
